Lyrics:
Moonlight, sleep tightNow to bed you sleepy head.
Rainbows, sunshine
Another day waits for you.
Close your eyes, go to sleep
Drift away to your sweet dreams
Stars gleaming in the night
As you rest beneath your moonlight
Bridge:
And when the morning comes
It’ll be your time
A new day, yours to live
Your dreams to find
Moonlight, sleep tight
Now to bed you sleepy head.
Rainbows, sunshine
Another day waits for you.
Close your eyes, go to sleep
Drift away to your sweet dreams
Stars gleaming in the night
As you rest beneath your moonlight

Jack, Roxylee, Feter and Henri Roger... this is positively a wonderful song. The combination of the sweet mandolin and Jack and Roxylee's harmonies were the perfect lullaby.
What a perfect song to end my Macjams day and head off to bed.
Thanks guys (and gal)!

Thank you from the moonlight four.

It is just wonderfull to be able to do this . It has become "easy" and maybe we find it
more and more normal to be able to make such a song , with 4 people living far away from each others but connected by the love of music and by web and the softwares .
I still find it "magic" :-)
Thank you very much for the invitation .
I was thinking about how Neil Young uses the piano in some of his ballads , for my addition here .
Bravo to everyone :-)
Dadai.2
it is still like magic to me how these collabs come together. The way you, Feter, and Roxylee found the same wave length and recorded your parts as if we we all in the same studio discussing the song and how we wanted it to go... magic.
Interestingly, Ejh was wondering how this song would be done by Neil Young (treatment wise). He listened to a demo before your piano part was completed. You and Ed must have been on the same wave length also. Beautiful and so tasty your piano playing. Thanks Henri!

Great collaboration. You guys should take a stab at the old hymn, "Softly and Tenderly"
Don't ask me what made me think of that, something in this music and harmony....
. - Harold
Dadai.2
Thanks Harold. I'll have to check out S&T, as it doesn't come to mind as a hymn I'm familiar with. Glad you liked our little moonlight serenade!

what a precious lullaby. You all did such a outstanding job on this. You work well togeather. More?
Be well all, Russ
Dadai.2
Thanks Russ for the nice comments. Roxylee, Feter, and I have all collabbed together a number of times in the past. This is my first with Henri. I hope we do more. Thanks again.

Like I said before, it has a charming quality that reminds me of Randy Newman's "Blue Shadows (On The Trail)," featured in the film "Three Amigos."
This sounds even better with the Fourth Amigo.
Lovely job on the vocals and harmonies, by Roxy and your vocal is very smooth and warm, Jack.
Creamy... and dreamy. ;)

Dadai.2
Joe, you've been most encouraging on this tune from the start. Thanks. Comparing in any way to Randy's song is just a great compliment. If you want to do a reproduction of this send me your email via note. And if you do, then there will be "five..."

...the song itself and the duet singing. It's very sweet, and I can truly and sincerely and in a positive, complimentary way, hear the guy that voiced Jimminy Cricket doing this one. It has that 'When You Wish Upon A Star' quality... Only it's a moon...
I also think you got a nice arrangement and the requested 'air' in there...
And if there's ever another version, I'd suggest getting as close as you can get to an upright bass in it, a snare drum with brushes maybe, and i think I'd tweak the mix a little bit. I've listened a few times, and this one actually works better over speakers. Over headphones there's an occasional sense of some instruments crowding each other, though not all the time, and there's a sense that not everything is keeping in time. I think part of the charm of this is to not have things too tight, but I think a few things could line up a little better and it'll contribute to a sense of clarity.
And why to we want clarity? 'Cause it's a danged fine song is why...
Ed
Dadai.2
I love that song. I sing it each time I do my once-a-month gig of standards and oldies. The year (1940?), the movie Pinocchio ... the song won the Academy award for best original song. Any way, I couldn't think of a better song to put in the same sentence with Your Moonlight... smiling.
Ed, thanks for your ear and your input... Joe may reproduce this at some point. I don't know if I'll get around to redoing it myself, but your points are well made and well taken. Thanks again.

What a great Christmas collab! Excellent performances all round!
Seriously good tunage!
Neil
Dadai.2
Real glad you like this Neil. It was a treat to do a song again with Roxylee... what a singer, and of course Feter and his mandolin. Special gift was to have Henri agree to join in. Each part was so necessary and so well done by those three. Much thanks,
Jack

What a great combination of talents! The song is excellent, with wonderful lyrics - I wish it were bedtime! Great singing, and lovely instrumentation. This is a great tribute to how different, complementary talents can create something transcendent. Lovely. Kudos to everyone involved. Nicely done. Peace.
Dadai.2
maybe time for a nap then... Seriously David, thanks for the generous comments on our song. Doing a song with these 3 is a pleasure and only makes me sound so much better than otherwise. I am impressed at the talent on loan around this place. Truly remarkable. Thanks again. Jack
Vic Holman
a wonderful song, the whole feel of this song really sets the mind a drift, into a good place.
good work from all involved. exceptional piece!
Dadai.2
I like songs that draw me in and take me somewhere... to a mood or a reflective thought. This song does that for me also. After coming up with the chords and melody I at first was going to make this a romantic love song, "Moonlight, champagne..." Didn't happen. The lullaby idea just slipped in and the words came.
Roxylee, what a voice. So good to be doing another song with her. She gives this song that special something. Feter and his mandolin... so light and whimsical... perfect. And Henri with his targeted, understated piano backdrop that anchors the music. What a treat to have these three join me on this.
Vic, thanks for chiming in... it always good to know your thoughts on a song, and to just have you drop in.
Jack
estellie
beautifully sung melody and harmonies. And the mandolin and guitars are just lovely.
thanks!

from all of us. Glad you like our little collab.

Ok, first, lovely song. Compositorially great, and all parts by themselves are great.
Now my "but"s. One. The mandolin sounds like it was recorded very close-miked, much more so than the other instruments. Or maybe it's lacking some of the nice reverberation that's on the other instruments. The effect is that it really sounds like being in a different space from the other instruments. I would put some drastic EQ on it to thin the sound a bit, now it has too much mid, not enough top, and then experiment with reverb on it to make it less upfront.
Two. Timing. Really. I hate to be negative about such a sweet song, but the instruments are greatly out of sync. The first mandolin note after that opening tremolo is audibly almost a 16th note late. In other places it's equally disruptive. This could be an artifact from trying to mix an mp3 into the mix. Did Feter send you an mp3 or a wav/aiff? I've had trouble syncing an mp3 part into arrangements. See what happens if you take that part and just move it forward a couple of clicks.
Dadai.2
Yes, your observations on the timing and sound space with the mandolin are valid. Feter recorded this in a less than optimum situation in Syria directly into his computer. He sent me an mp3 of that recording. So there is a lot of room for improvement in the overall production of this. But you know... I'm happy with this collab... an amateur singer/songwriter getting so much from these three just thrills me. I'd love to be in a studio with these guys and have someone like you or JA Stewart calling the shots.... now that would be cool, and really might produce something of what you must imagine could be done. Thanks Vic.
Jack
Roxylee
and singing with Jack is always wonderful. Thank you, Jack! I love Jack's vocals, guitar and melody, and Feter's mando and Henri's piano made it even sweeter. This is a song I want to hear over and over. :-)
I'm so late in commenting because of the ice storm, which took down power lines and booted me offline, and out of my cold house, for 4 days. It's so good to be back! :-)

Is so good to see you back dear ! ;-)

song and performance from you all. I feel like I'm watching a classic Christmas movie, all warm and comfortably relaxed.

I am very glad that you guys and gal add so much warmth to MJ. Almost like a candle awaiting newcomers to come and partake. This tune is a fine example of that warmth. Nice high register in both vocalizations. Enjoy that mandolin sound as well. Thanks for sharing! Great pic too!
Dadai.2
Thanks Bill for your, always, encouraging and generous comments. I know others are equally appreciative. You, of course, bring your own special warmth via that lovely guitar....
cheers,

Richard_Schletty
Very nice. Dreamy, affectionate, unhurried, smooth, kid-friendly. Jack's cool smoky voice is perfectly framed by Roxylee's dreamy descant. The vox levels are perfect. The stereo spread is pretty good. Like bringing a low-key Mediterranean jazz band home to your kid's bedroom. Feter's mando is quite nice but you must make sure it stays in sync with its soloing.
Nit crits: Some timing issues throughout with various instruments. A slightly flat string on the mandolin. Too much reverb on piano. Guitar picking on high strings in left channel is tin-foil thin -- give it more body or take it out. The mando could occupy its space at about 10 degrees left and reduce competition with the lead voice. A slap bass (or more dominant piano left hand) and a light touch of jazz kit percussion (with brush ride cymbal) at key moments could help provide a steady transport for the song. Maybe a little xylophone here and there? I don't think I want to hear violins, though, That would get too schmalttzy. But keeping the song lean is good, too. The main thing is to try to get everyone in the same soundspace.
Dadai.2
Thanks mate for the generous comments and helpful critiques. Maybe in the next version of next life (heheh) I can hone this little number.
Now drift away to your sweet dreams....

This is a wonderful piece of work here especially getting everyone together to play. Feter and Mr.Bright sound wonderful- everyone does! I'm really impressed and this definitely will be in my favorites. I really enjoy the lyrics and Jack and Roxylee's vocals flow really well together balancing the song. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to future collaborations and I wish you all happy holidays : )
