Lyrics:
LATIN:Dormi, parvulus, dormi.
SPANISH:
[1]
Duerme, niño, duerme
la noche es magica.
Duerme, niño, duerme
que tu madre te abraza.
Criatura, tan pequena,
Echado en tan simple cuna.
Duerme, niño, duerme.
Los angeles te guardan.
[2]
Duerme, niño, duerme.
Los angeles te cantan
Duerme, niño, duerme
bajo la luna de plata.
Reyes y pastores de muy alla
vienen al ver la estrella brillar.
Duerme, niño, duerme
Los angeles te guardan.
[bridge]
Nació_en lo_inmenso del tiempo,
Espíritu_y carne_al momento
Alabemos al Rey de Reyes
Hijo del Dios de todos entes.
Aquí_en su portal,
nueva vida_inmortal.
Con ovejas en el pesebre.
En su paño de lana duerme.
[3]
Duerme, niño, duerme
bajo el cielo estrellado.
Duerme, niño, duerme
a la nana que María ha cantado.
Has venido a salvarnos a todos,
Pequeño Jesús, oh Dios,
Duerme, niño, duerme.
ENGLISH:
[1]
Sleep, Baby, sleep
on this magic night.
Sleep, Baby, sleep
while Mother holds you tight.
Little baby, so so small,
lying in that humble stall.
So sleep, Baby, sleep
while angels watch they keep.
[2]
Sleep, Baby, sleep
while angels hum a tune.
Sleep, Baby, sleep
beneath the silver moon.
Kings and shepherds see the star
and come to visit from afar.
So sleep, Baby, sleep
while angels watch they keep.
[bridge]
Born in the fullness of time,
Spirit and matter combine.
Praise to the King of all kings:
The Son of the God of all things.
Here in this portal,
New life immortal.
In a manger with sheep,
In soft wool you sleep.
[3]
Sleep, Baby, sleep
beneath the starry sky.
Sleep, Baby, sleep
to Mary's lullaby.
You have come to save us all,
little Jesus, so so small.
So sleep, Baby, sleep.
Sleep, Baby, sleep.

Feter: As you recall, when you heard my early instrumental arrangements nearly three years ago (just before you joined MacJams), you suggested I do a Medieval/Spanish a cappella arrangement. I am so glad I met you at Folk Alley.com

Richard, this is great in a Capella - I remember how striking this was when you posted it before, indeed a memorable song from you.

A magic moment, no doubt about that. Not sure I can ever do something like this again.

No, I didn't mean that! I meant "hats off to a cappella" as in "let's all salute a great art form. My favorite a cappella groups are The Kings Singers and The Bobs.

Feter and Harold say it well. This is an amazing composition and a vocal performance you can really be proud of. Wonderful work and a lullaby that honors the birth of Christ for this season.

Jack, you are a factor in my music development. Thanks for not bailing out on me. Sailing onward!

I loved it the first time, and I love the a Cappella version even better. You have such a gift for texturing with vocal layering! On my third listen and downloading. Just wonderful, Rich. I like how you make your background vocals sound like violins at the very end. :-)

Roxy: Thank you. I should tell you that this is the arrangement which made Brian Link, director of Waltham Abbey Singers, think that I knew something about early European polyphonic chant. I had to admit that I made this all up on the fly as I laid down track after track. That opening salvo was inspired by "Russian Lullaby" by E-Type, as well as by Gregorian Chant from my early youth.
estellie
to do what you have done. Congratulations to you and your brother.
Richard_Schletty
We are most grateful, Estellie. So glad you stopped by for a listen. I am not totally satisfied with the final measures. Hopefully, some day I can enrich the off ramp.

Well with a voice as strong as clear as yours this is truly a remarkable piece. I enjoyed your vocal work very much. Nicely done!
