Description:
Recording this album was an exercise in speed and chance. Speed, because of the ultimate deadline of getting a release ready in time to ship for Christmas. Chance, because I live in an area of Orlando that is, to put it mildly, a living sound effects record of urban city noises. One of the things that bugged me the most was attempting to record with my Audio-Technica atm33a condenser, which is quite a good mic, and always listening back to a track and hearing passing trucks, boom cars, freeway rumble, etc. Luckily, my friend Roger's guitar ran over most of that lo-frequency stuff. Here, he joins me on one of a handful of cuts from "Christmas Each Day." Hope you enjoy it!

It's amazing to me, given that a dulcimer is in some ways like a tiny-bodied guitar with only the treble strings, how full and rich they can sound when well played and well recorded... This is quite full, rich, reverberant and present... Sounds great...
Let me know when you're touring New England, Bing...

such a neat instrument - I'm waiting on delivery for one that's actually got more of a guitar-like sound, fills out the spectrum a little more. Glad you enjoyed this - and I'll definitely let you know when I'm coming through that area again, Ed!

Great combination of the two tunes. I love the sound of the dulcimer and the guitar together. Merry Christmas!

Thanks K.J.! For some of the same reasons mentioned by Ed above, the guitar and dulcimer combo is one of the best, simply because of the sound spectrum that it covers - one hand washes the other and really presents a tasty mix. It especially helps when the guitarist is as good a player as Roger Zimish! Thanks again for listening!

such a wonderful singing voice it's almost a shame to not use it. But I'm glad this is left instrumental. It's so open graceful. Really impressive!

I appreciate the kind words - I'm continuously working on refinement in the vocal department, but do realize, usually, when an instrumental would serve the tune better and this is definitely one of them! Thanks for listening!

... and you just make that dulcimer sing! This is really enjoyable and the recording is fine (at least as far as I can hear). I know what you mean about condenser mics though. I was recording and the dryer was on in the house and the low freq rumble made its way right in to the recording.
Very nice, thanks,
Stephen
