Description:
slowing it down a little...this is an end of year song...around this time I always end up thinking about my life to date, about how much living a person can do in a relatively short amount of time...my wife and i were pals before we were anything else, and we used to tear around Norfolk in that foot loose and drunken college kid way...it was alot of fun - and the memories are great. this tune is a look back...

Lyrics:
Do you remember back then
running around?
Crawling the bars, wandering the city
it's 2 am, and I can just see you
you're face is flushed
and I'm thinking that I like us
i'm thinking that I like us

i'm thinking that I might like to give it a try
you're thinking that I might be the right kind of guy
we're thinking that the stars are looking kind of aligned
and we might get lucky this time

Do you remember back then
fooling around?
Out on the fire escape, listening to the ball game
holding hands
i can just see you
you're eyes are wide
and i'm thinking that I like us
i'm thinking that I like us

i'm thinking that I might like to give it a try
you're thinking that I might be the right kind of guy
we're thinking that the stars are looking kind of aligned
and we might get lucky this time

Nice song! Another in your funky vein, very satisfying. As always you have impeccable ear for hooky song elements.
In this case I particularly like the guitar effect - is it a wah pedal?
Also can I ask how you do the drums in your songs?
The lyrics are evocative, for some reason "out on the fire escape" is my favourite line... it resonates even though I never listened to baseball games LOL!
Great tune man.

wah...
Our apartment was near the minor league ball park - the Norfolk Tides. We used to sit on the fire escape and listen to the game. You could hear the announcer perfectly and when somebody made a play this great yell would go up from the fans. It was cool.

I used an old crybaby pedal for the guitar. For drums I usually take a series of loops with the same bass/snare sound and cut and paste them into different beats for each part of the song (these loops were from the GT effects software). This normally takes the "loopy" sound out of the samples. Then I use a couple tracks of midi cymbal/other percussion sounds to add emphasis on certain parts and then mix all the percussion tracks side to side. Not as good as real drums but at the moment the best I can do with what i've got.

Glad you liked the song!

This has
quite a soulful quality to it. Restrained and funky. Great song, performance and production.
Didn't know there was a Norfolk in America. Maybe it should be New Norfolk?
Cheers

new norfolk
norfolk is in Virginia, near the border with north carolina. It's an old port city but since yours was settled by Angles i'm thinking that yours is older lol.

thanks for the listen!

Shaft-like Coolness
Great vocals on this one. Really crispy and soulful, even though you're probably #FFFFFF white!

This is packed with vivid imagery and as always, an example of your fine story telling skills.

You rock Tempie!

space
The thing I like about your stuff is the amount of restraint you display. You aren't afraid of space... and that is a good thing.
