Bill,
Thanks for this wonderful composition. When I hear things such as this on MacJams I'm actually pretty floored as I couldn't see myself composing / producing something such as this. Maybe I'm just one dimensional but either way, I loved it.

well, i put this together one piece at a time. each step was fairly simple in itself, it's just that i keep adding, subtracting, and refining until it seems to be complete. that might make the final result seem daunting, but really, there is no magic here, just a series of steps.
i hope you don't become discouraged, just keep experimenting on your songs. on songs that floor you, maybe you could try to pick out just one feature that catches your attention, and then try using that feature in the next song you do. if you're unsure how that feature is done, or how it works, ask the composer: most folks here are more than willing to discuss their music at length.
have fun, and thank you

Very sweet composition with lusciously consonantal harmonies, and nice writing for winds. Perhaps a teeny bit too much reverb... made it a bit soupy at times.
SmokeyVW
a dilly dolly (referring to picture)
i'm surprised you said only a teeny bit - i used great restraint in mixing all three reverbs in this. all tracks got a medium-sized reverb and a humongous one (audible at the end), plus the oboe got its own additional one. it's a tradeoff between crisp and spaceful, but i know i tend to go overboard on that: either too much or else totally dry.
some of the chords are beyond what i understand how to name, but i guess they're ok.
thanks

this is very impressive my friend ...now this is so suitable for the season
and more ...very nicely done ..Kudos what a brilliant piece ..thnx alot for sharin !!!
SmokeyVW
thank you, i really appreciate your comments. i didn't think i would post a holiday song this year, but this one suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
announcer
this is a classical piece that sounds as if it should be set in a cathedral. The reverb is perfect for that kind of space. Rich but not muddy.
Nice composition too!
SmokeyVW
why thank you, i was starting to think i had overdone the reverb...
Moviz
sounding and peaceful at the same time. I must say that you're so prolific music-wise, but that never affects the quality, Cheers M
SmokeyVW
thank you very much
magnatone
boy, I've gotta agree with Announcer - the reverb sounds perfecto to my ears! What a gorgeous piece you've created here Bill - love your instrument choices, the mood this crates - just wonderful! And yes, you're incredibly prolific but like Moviz said, each one of your offerings is of the highest quality too. Happy Holidays to you!
SmokeyVW
to me, this song is about the holidays
meeting up with family - which is fun
but also realizing that we're all getting older - which is melancholy
thanks

I love the subdued chorus voices in this, and he chord arrangement. you really shine at doing these types of melodic songs. You express the mood of the title very well.
SmokeyVW
it was fun setting chords to the melody on this. i don't actually know the names or function for a couple of them... they just seemed to need to be that way.
thank you
