Description:
I am a big fan of the vastly underrated English band, Durutti Column - and since coming to this site, I have noticed that there are one or two more of you out there. This is an old analogue recording that I probably wouldn't have uploaded but I thought it might be of interest. On this piece, I am trying emulate the unique style of Vinni Reilly, one of my favourite guitarists, and the main component of DC. For those of you that aren't familiar, check out their work - particularly early stuff on Factory records. For more info check out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Durutti_Column

Lyrics:
Come with me to the Sea, eventually. A night on the Sea (etc)

Hardware:
Don't remember. Probably my old Guild D5, Yamaha SGB, and SM58 mic... but it was long ago!

Software:
4-track tape mixed to GB

Very cool DC style piece
love the masses of echo and chorus creating rhythms within the rhythms. Factory was a great label - this fits right in.

Oh - this is Bud by the way. Splinter is now Airport Seven and I gotta get my party points before I can post.

Thanks for putting up this nugget Daniel.

choir of chorus's
there's a nice 80's charm. mostly due to the shimmering chorus's and delays. interesting tune

Not only Vini
but a little bit of ACR creeping in there?

I would love to hear a big fat sparse dubby bass in here somewhere

great guitar sound

Very true
But DC's signature sound was bass-less. I love ACR too!

Durutti Column?
Blimey, that's a name from the past. They rather passed me by but this is a fine piece by any standards.

Cheers

Very creative
I too don't know Vinni Reilly's work, but after hearing this I'm going to have to go check it out. This has a great, fun, 80's feel, and is extremely well done. I agree with the commentator who said it would be nice to hear a big fat (mini moog?) bass line in there somewhere. Very creative.

Please do Clark
Might I suggest Dry and Valuable Passages - some of which is almost classical. Vinni is a great pianist too... often leaning towards the ECM jazz sound. BTW, DC often recorded without bass.. hence my mix.

Cool
As a long time fan of 'The Column' I really enjoy this...wouldn't have been out of place on 'The Guitar and other Machines'. Very nice Reilly-esque guitar tone
Cheers
