Closing out 2008 and hoping for a wonderful 2009 for everyone.
Lyrics:
2008 is just about over and I am ready to see it go. The last six months have been tough and honestly I have not felt like writing much music. I wrote this one today
and decided to upload it as is before I talked myself out of it like I have been doing.
Nothing special about it, just hopefully pleasant for your ears. :)

This is fabulous! What an incredible piano sound. Is that a software sound, or an actual piano? Is there any reverb, or just sustain peddle?

I appreciate your kind comments. This is played on my Ensoniq keyboard with a grand piano sound. Small amount of reverb but plenty of sustain. I tend to let my foot fall asleep on that peddle sometimes! :) My tough times were really minimal in 2008, just a very busy year. I am grateful for whatever it was, good and bad, just glad that it is done. Thanks for listening.

GAIL! It's so GREAT to hear something new from you - in fact, just to HEAR from you! This is gorgeous, and I'm amazed this is something you can just sit down and do in one day. Simply wow, oh wow... I could listen to your keys for eternity without the fear of growing too tired of them. If I died early then I'd die happily beneath such a melting melody.
Wow oh wow... Hearing this I will put my m-audio keystation 61 up for sale immediately as there is no reason to keep it. You have captured more emotion in this piece than I could in a life time of composing, performing or whatever the hell it is that I do here on MacJams!
I will sleep wonderfully tonight with this intricate melody working its way through my meager little brain. I will dream that someday I could come close to something this sweet, gentle and beautiful.
Alas... hardly likely I fear but hey dreams sometimes keep us going right?

This has little aspects of George Winston, and feels like the sparkly cold beauty of Winter. Breathtaking and inspired. Of course, it doesn't surprise me, since you wrote it. Please take care and I look forward to more of these wonderful "Gail-sightings" in 2009.

Other commenters are much more qualified than I to comment on the musical qualities of this gorgeous offering but it spoke (softly) to me emotionally. I sincerely hope that this piece (and the posting of it) represents some sort of hurdle for you (now, successfully hurdled) and that all of the coming year will be filled with peace and glorious creativity.

That was a sweet, sweet comment and one of my favorites. To think that something I wrote could touch you or anyone else emotionally is just mind blowing to me. I take that a wonderful compliment and I am grateful to you. This was a "mind clearing, start over, out with the old and in with the new piece." 2008 was a good year in a lot of ways, but overwhelming in some areas. I am looking forward to a fresh start and smaller hurdles. Thanks for listening!!

This is very nice - I'm sure you have figured that out by the number of 'fans' in your fan list :) It does have a bit of a feeling of 'time to move on' in it - although I can't analyze why it feels that way. I went through both a 'talk myself out of uploading' and a 'why can't I write any music' phase. I'm sure I'll cycle around to those times again. I think most of us do. Your sound is great, as is your playing. Here's to a less stressful 2009!

This is lovely, Gail. I'm sorry I took so long to get to it... Where I'm sitting, the piano 'spread' is very real, very lifelike, and the sound is perfect... I love your playing... I hear echoes of George Winston and also Joni Mitchell...
(I had to relisten on the top player, as the QuickTime player for some reason was chopping off the ending... Don't know what that's about... )

Gail how did I miss this? What a stunning, moving piece of music. Brilliant performance on the piano. I just loved the faint orchestration - almost not really there at all, a whisper of a sound, making me really pay attention, drawing me in. Sigh...and once you drew me in the piano just wrapped itself right around me and held me warmly throughout. There is some remembering in this, some letting go, some cautious looking-ahead, and some hope and faith in what will come. I wish for you a wonderful 2009 as well Gail. Thank you for sharing this.
