Description
A tribute to Cub Scouts everywhere, this song was originally part of a Cub Scout "recruitment" video I made for my son's pack. It would be really cool if "Cub Scouts" found its way into more Cub Scout presentations, so feel free to forward the url to your favorite Cub Scout leader. And if you like the song, please let me know!

Lyrics
We are the Cub Scouts
Here’s what we’re all about
Helping Man and daring to dream
You never get too old
To join with the Blue and Gold
Cause we work as a team

From the Jamboree
To the Pinewood Derby
Always do your best

We are the Cub Scouts
Fearlessly camping out
Tigers, Bears, Wolves and Webelos
You gotta be so proud
The pack makes me scream and shout
It’s a fun way to grow
Seven badges to go

From the Jamboree
To the Pinewood Derby
Always do your best
Work

little dudes. enjoyed the guitar work. brings back good
camping memories

Cub Scouts: C# minors
Very smooth production... clear without taking the edge off. Nice vocals, also very clear and up front. Your voice has a bit of a Joe Walsh quality. I kinda wish the tempo was a little faster. Another 10 or 15bpm would really add a lot of energy. I suppose there's plenty enough energy at those meetings as it is. Your son will score big points for having a rockin' dad! (7-8-6-7)

I never was a Cub or Boy Scout!
But I would join now... with "Cub Scout Rocks". I agree... a
little more "drive" or faster tempo to it might be what's
missing. I'd like to hear the boys in the troup singing
along in the refrain!

"All in all... we're just another brick....

Ahhh yes
the Pinewood Derby.

This is hilarious. What will the other parents think?

Nice Be Bop Deluxe guiter run at the 3/4 mark.

"Woooork."

they say that great minds...
...think alike! As I was listening to this well-conceived and
produced track, I thought that a more upbeat tempo
would be even better. Something the kids could really
dance and rock to!

But of course, this is the "dad's" more laid-back tempo,
and the song is very cool. Your son should be proud.

I would have liked to have heard a more dramatic ending.

Good job!

Thanks All!
Wow, that was the quickest feedback I ever got!

Maybe I should try a little time compression on the track
to see what it sounds like.

Great insights! Joe Walsh was definitely an influence in my
formative years. Strange voice . . . oddball delivery . . .
that's me! Whoa and Bebop Deluxe!! Bill Nelson was way
ahead of his time, eh? I don't know if it comes off, but I
was also trying to channel a little Adrian Belew and some
Brian May for good measure!

For the video, I was toying with the idea of having the kids
sing the vocal.

Alimar -- I was never a Cubs Scout of boy scout either,
This is all new to me!

Great song!
What a lucky troop to have such a creative adult in their midst. Well done.
packosmokes said 1829 days ago (November 18th, 2004)
Funny!
That little guitar accent at the beginning had me singing
"Cub Scout!" along with it. I don't think I've done that
since I heard the Superman theme. Great hook!

It does sound more adult then cub scout era, but then
again, I'm not sure I could stomached a Britney Spears
version of the song. Although, maybe chikoppi's got a
point with a faster tempo.

Funny!
Thanks! Know what's really cool? All this mention of the Pinewood Derby is
consistently bringing up Pinewood Derby Ads in the Google ad area just
above the comments area! Glad I didn't use the lyric "Painful Hemmeroidal
Itch," tho I'm not even sure how to spell it . . .

Fearless Camping Cubscouts
Great tune. I can just picture the video. Your voice, to me,
sounds a little like Ozzy, which makes for a funny Ozzy as
Scoutmaster image. Nice work.

Fearless Camping Cubscouts
Ozzy--LOL! Biting the heads off Cub Scouts!!!

That's funny I also heard a little Ozzy. I think it's because I triple tracked my
voice throughout most of the song. Ozzy is almost always double tracked.
If I'm not mistaken, same goes for Joe Walsh. It hides a lot!

Fun fun fun...
nice guitar work... I think the only thing that this song
can use is a Cub Scout chorus singing the refrain!

Rockin!
All those symbols on the song art - whew! I'm having a
DaVinci Code moment! :) Great song Paul. Creative,
upbeat, sung well, played well, arranged well, produced
well. I like the effect on the vocals, if that's what I'm
hearing. I have to agree with the tempo comments too --
I could totally hear this as an Offspring-esque driving beat
-- more punk, less adult... let's consider our audience,
shall we?! Seriously though, this is a rockin' song and the
Scouts should be proud to have a new anthem.

I was a Cub Scout...
...many years ago, and this song was a total kick! "Just 7 badges to go..." is missing from your typed lyrics above, and since it cracked me up so well, I thought I'd mention it (since I'm here, etc.)

Rockin' cool
2 things I'd love to hear (and I agree w/ the idea of
cubscouts at the end helping w/ the refrain) are:

1. I'd love to hear a sort of rockabilly harmony part added
to the ends of the vocal phrases (like the bass player's
leaning into your mic to harmonize) and

2. At the end I'd love to get a counter-rhythm going with
foot stomps on 1 2 3 and then a hand claps on the and of
4 (not sure if I'm communicating that right or not) but I
think you've probably got my message.

Not completely sure if I'd take the tempo up as much as
others, but it could be fun to play w/. :-)

I was a cub/webelo, back in the paleolithic era, never had
anything this cool, though we did make a cool coat rack...

Grinned
all the way through! Reminds me of Ian Hunter. This
song's energy is like a train taking a curve -- strong and
steady but you know it can go faster if the engineer wants
to press it. I agree with ka-klick some hand claps would
be a nice addition towards the end. Catchy mix overall.

So Fun!
I would have loved to have some one like you in my midst
when I was younger. My only complaint is that I would
have liked a little more volume on the vocals, they seem
to wash out a bit.

Great Father!
Awesome song for a recruitment video. Your son must be
very proud to have such a cool Dad. I've never been in the
scouts, but If I was ever a kid again I would of sure liked
to join. Great job on vocals, guitar work and overall comp.
Your vocals remind me of Ozzy and that little guitar twirl
reminds of Queen. Both I enjoy a lot! Just my opinion...

Song Update
I just delete a duplicate version of this song. Strangely enough it had a
much higher rating (8.0) than this one. Oh well. This one's been here
longer, and the number of downloads is increasing steadily. Thanks,

The Cub Scout Promise
Here's another thought on using the scouts in the song - instead of singing, they could be reciting the Cub Scout promise to "obey the Law of the Pack." The tempo seems fine to me. Nice work.

Any chance you have the Tab(s) for this?
Hi,

I just found this song while searching for Cub Scout Guitar Songs. I just started as a Tiger Den Leader and wanted to play a few songs for the kids. This one might come later for them.

I realize this song was posted back in '04, you might be a Boy Scout Leader now ;-)

If you are still monitoring this thread AND you have the Tab(s) available, would there be any chance of you sharing them?

Thanks in advance,
