Description

Brought the 'ol 12 string out of seclusion. A couple of new strings, and a quick tuning resulted in the 1st track, recorded into my H2 while sitting on the couch. I then went in and added the additional trakcs using the H2 in passthrough mode directly into Garage Band. No loops, just 3 continuous live tracks. 1 on the 12 string, and 2 on my '74 Garcia classical. Admittedly, it's a bit long...but that's what happens with improv. It is what it is.

I originally posted this on 12/27/08 and Feter, Lank81 and Partical dots were all nice enough to stop by and comment...then in my attempt to post a revised version, I apparently deleted everything, this is the second post with some minor timing issues corrected from version 1.

Sweet combination
of both guitars. When a great device that H2 is a swell. it really must make recording fun and easy. it sure picked up the sounds quite well. I guess the H2 only recorded the 12 string and the passthrough mode, garageband picked that up. Thanks for sharing that, it also inspired me to google the H2 zoom and watch a video on it as well.

You might want to contact H2 company and see if you could do spots for them :)

Thanks for the listen. The H2 makes it a lot easier for me to actually get something recorded. It may not be studio quality, but at close range, it does quite well, especially when you consider that my Washer, & Dryer were going in the next room, and the H2 was sitting on top of my running MacBook. It also works great just as a mic interface to Garageband as even in monitor mode, you can adjust the input and output levels. I think you'd enjoy it. It gives you a certain freedom that you can't get tethered to your computer. Oh, and I hear the H4 may be better, although I haven't tried it.

Neat....
Reminds me of old David Crosby jams, with the likes of Jorma or Jerry Garcia or Neil Young playing over the twelve-string... A touch of David Gilmour-ish-ness in the strum as well...

The H2 certainly seems to be a handy device. Many MacJammers seem to be using them to get things started...

Hi Blaine,
I was sent here by someone helping me out with Zoom/GarageBand issues. It's great that I also got to hear some excellent guitar-playing here. This has a nice, laid-back groove. The length is fine for this. After all, it's not a pop song!
It sounds like your Zoom is working well as a pass-through mic. Do you use a special cable or anything?

Oh crap, I blew it again. No, as a matter of fact, I can't write a song to save my life, can only groove. Special cable? No, I just go right out through the 1/8 headphone/line out on the H2 and into the laptop input. The trick is getting the input recording levels set right, the impedance set right (I set mine to medium when recording) and setting the output volume on the H2.

Like Drew Kopr said some low end would fill this out nicely. Having said that it's still a great listen. The 12 string reminded me a lot of early Al Stewart - the strumming is so natural and fluid. The sound quality is fantastic given your "studio" conditions! I'm guessing you tuned the guitars to the washing machine and not viva versa!

	very nice 12 string is a nice sounding instrument but I hate to play it. it causes pain, it`s exhausting, you have to tune much longer, you can`t pick the way you use to... New & Improved
Thanks Drak. Admittedly is a little Wish you Were Here, but that album had such a profound affect on my life. Still at the very top of my list, I can't find a thing wrong with it from end to end, have listened to it at least a thousand times and like it no less. A very rare gift PF left us with that one. Check out the vastly improved version with the master Drew Kopr and his fretless bass. A Big Melancholy. Thanks for the comments and inspiration all!
