etherial and ear friendly to listen to. I too have enjoyed Freddie's work from long time back. While living on my sail boat at the Dinner Key out anchorage a contest was given by a local jazz station with tickets to a concert of his in Miami. "Tell us in 25 words or less why you like Freddie Hubbard!" My reply was, "As long as there is good jazz you'll find Freddie Hubbard." It got me two tickets to a very premo show.
Sorry to hear that he's on the great stage in the sky. Really great work you've done in tribute. He's jamm'en with U man.

wailing tribute indeed - fran - you're such a master!

hear those trademark see sounds.
I love your sense of rhythm on the electric guitar. Whether it be lead or the chords you really know how to bring out the blues to a very high level. Love how your bring into a almost sixties type of blues sound to going galaxy-stellar into the other worlds sort of speak. terrific sense of cool guitar lead harmonies. And it keeps growing through out the tune. One of the very best i've heard at MJ this week. Love the rain on the window shield feel of the percussion.
Way to go Z! Your tops hear at MJ and I think throughout the web for being the one of the very best electric blues player. Gad maybe your one of the best in the world in what you do. Because you make so much of your music really count. You really do in that special z type of way!

did you put something in your coffee?? THANK YOU so much for these amazingly supportive words...coming from a guitarist of your stature, these words feel very sweet.
I am coming to believe that my style of guitaring is going the way of the dinosaur. The sound of the electric guitar solo has been cliched to the point where people dont know the difference between a good player and a bad one. People have a video game to play so they can pretend... I hear the Slash fans calling him a guitar hero...man, to me he sounds like an amateur...but a guitar player such as Robert Cray, who has taken the genre of blues music further than any modern blues artist, goes widely ignored. Cray's approach, while steeped in blues tradition, is nothing short of revolutionary. His use of alternate chord progressions that ultimately end up sounding like a blues is just amazing. In my opinion, he is the most important blues artist today. I do aspire to be like him. I aspire to respect the traditions of the music, but to make my individual voice come forward. It is really hard. I am sure ALL improvising musicians are after the same thing...a recognizable, original sound that expresses the pain/joy within. Song writers and lyricists are lucky, because they have the skill to manipulate language to say what is in the heart. My skills with words ends with my ability to tell a joke!
We guitar guys have to try and communicate in this non-verbal way...
Tiler, you have always been one of my fav MJers, one of the group of people I have met and enjoyed on this site, that I truly hope to meet in person some day. You have given me great support and kindness since my day one here, and I really appreciate it. Plus you are one of the most prolific and creative acoustic players I have heard anywhere.
all my best my friend.

thanx for posting...

This cruises along very nicely. Your rhythm section backs you up and gives you room to make your statements. I really enjoy what the acoustic brings to this song. I love the octave lead lines - very effective in this song.
Then there's your smooth, fluid, seemingly effortless playing... I greatly admire and envy the union you reach with your guitar. It gives comfort to the listener, as if hearing such a master proves that in spite everything, all is well on this earth. You keep playing, Fran. You have a gift to give us all.

First up, happy 2009!
I love the Santana-like progression here, and the way you wrap your fingers around it.
Eggshell on its way once I get myself organised, but don't hold your breath.
Thanks for all the good music in 2008.
Cheers,

...that I really enjoy the one-man-Ziti, multi-tracked guitar extravaganzas... Thanks for another one... I'm listening over speakers right now, and I know, know, know that I'm going to enjoy this even more over headphones...
You're another one, Fran, who's a master of tone, but it's not just one tone, not just one sound... but you've definitely got a sound, as well...
