Description:
Its interesting how when you start with an idea, it just blossoms into something bigger than what you imagined. So I started this song the morning after an incredible windstorm that blew the shingles off my house and threw the trashcans across the yard, etc. I wanted to make something that captured the essence of wind in general, not just crazy wind. So I made the intro as just something to mess around with and suddenly the rest of the song just happened. I didnt revisit the intro at the end because when it was all said and done, I thought the intro was so insignificant to the rest of the song. But I dunno. Anyway, hope ya dig it!
PS, I used the flugel instead of the trumpet. I always forget to mention when I use it. I thought it sounded better in this setting.

Really cool sound man. Nice tone on the flugel, a tough instrument to master I'm sure. Catchy 3/4

Enjoyed your flugel playing much. Brilliant with the shakers to illustrate the winds... I can feel the space that must have been left after the storm...

You're getting a great sound on that flugelhorn. It's a bit darker than a trumpet, which suits this tune to a T.

Very nice arrangement and playing. I enjoyed listening and I can appreciate the trumpet(Flugelhorn)since I traveled on the road playing trumpet for years. You have a special talent and very nice sound.
Thanks for sharing,

I Grew up in West Texas and those constant winds can make ya feel gritty but this windstorm made me feel kind of hopeful that it would soon be over... not the song of course... beautifully done - you keep goin with the contract of proving the mainstreamers wrong. I try to do that as well although I still have certain 'sounds' I wish I could achieve in my saxophone playing. Love the brush work on the drum solo near the end. I play with a guy who loves his flugel and always looks for any excuse to use it.

dig those mellophoniums

Very cool. Sweet & mellow flugelhorn playing and tone. The drum solo could have been a bit louder. I totally dig the live, darkened stage with in in a spotlight feel. I have to go discover your other stuff...!

I can understand what you mean by blossoming. This does have a nice 'unfolding' quality to it - new ideas built from fragments of previous ones. You have a really sultry tone on that flugelhorn. I like how you wait to show off yur chops until the second half, and just let us sink into the nice mellow tone for the first half. Drums are great in their role as backing rhythm, but feel like they're too far away during the short solo section. Very smooth, like cobalt blue glass.

this starts out, almost kinda like A, B, C, D etc. that kids melody, though this of course is no kidzy type tune.Very sophisticated jazz sounds. Love the leisure feeling to this. Very loose and dangly!
