This is one of my favorites, a collaboration with Neil Porter (jiguma) and Craig Bakay (snowdragon). It's a remix of the 2006 version with the aid of ChannelStrip. I especially appreciated Neil's help on the original mix, adding the drums along with his bass. Craig chimes in adding some choice backup vocals.
Jack: lead & backup vocal, acoustic and electric guitar, harmonica
Neil: bass guitar, drum loops
Craig: backup vocal

This arrangement has a fuller sound with the drums and extra vocals. It's good to hear this one again. We will keep on runnin and keep the hope. :-)
Dadai.2
This is actually the third version. The first, if I recall, had no drums or backups. The 2nd did. And of course this one, which is better mixed IMHO. Thanks Roxylee. There are a few of my old songs, mainly collabs, that I hope to remix and submit over time. As I said, KOR is one of my favorites.

I sang this at Old Man River Café. The song is that good. Invites participation. Tells a story. Easy to latch onto. A good one, boys.
Dadai.2
I remember you telling me you performed this at the Old Man River. A nicer compliment I couldn't want. Thanks. Keeping on...

Everything works well. Fine lyrics, vocals, and the harp is killer. Great job.
Be well, Russ

Great song for this reflective time of year. The chorus is really made for singing along.
Dadai.2
So good to have you drop in and listen to this song. Your comments hit the spot for me... reflective and a sing-a-long chorus. I'm glad. Thanks.

those harmonies, plus that Jack Miller style. But this has a very nice harmony especially in the oooos and haaaas, turning-turning, prayin, prayyin etc. Nice jack. Nice beats vocal singin and the list goes on.
Glad your a member of this site and keep that wonderful soft rock folk thang goin :) !
Thanks for sharing! Nice tribute to the new year!

You are the most amazing guy here at MJ. Maestro on the finger-style guitar and one most generous in your comments on songs. One day... one day I hope to meet you. We're not that many miles apart. I'm glad you're a member here too. Best to you and yours this new year.

I hear a lot of classic 70's here, and that's not a criticism ;-)
Great singing over a solid foundation.

I feel like I may know you... or not... or maybe, but a comment of "classic 70's" is only a compliment in this amateur's world. Most appreciative of your motherly and generous comments.

oh jack, this is terrific! Vocals are great - hard not to sing along! (And why resist?)
Dadai.2
Heheh... so singalong, and be merry. Thanks maggie.

I was wondering how I'd get a new song up on New Year's Day Jack, and I obviously didn't need to. I really like the improvements you've made to the mix - vocally much better mixed than before. If I was doing this again now, I'd have no hesitation about removing the DoD drum track and replacing it with a better midi version. The rest of the song has been lifted so much in this version. Maybe you could send me the mix without the drum track and I'll try to get it right for 2010 :)
GREAT singing guys - what ever happened to snow anyway?
Happy New Year all from Oz.

a little less intimidating since I got this ChannelStrip software. I'm still just scratching the surface with it... I'll probably revisit some of my other old tunes (especially collabs) and do some tweaking. If they turn out good enough then I'll add it back to MJ. I'll take you up on the midi drums offer. You are quite the drummer these days! Snow... I just heard from him. He's been busy with his band playing and recording covers of old classic songs. I do miss working with him on a song.
Thanks and take care,
Jack

I love the guitar work and the vox...Jack there's that Justin Hayward vox again!!! I love this

just riding my seesaw and making music... heheh. Thanks much. That compliment is always welcomed. Glad you like the song... one of my faves. Cheers.

and excellent collab. The vocal blend is really nice and the harp fits in there well too. Good tale = well sung and played.
Dadai.2
Thanks bud... I think the main improvement in this mix was the vocals. So I appreciate you mentioning the vocal blend... and my harp, well... I'm always glad when someone likes that too.
cheers,
Jack

.... if you keep on runnin' =)
very nice remix. a lot of clarity on this one Jack. What really stands out to me is the great backup vocals.
It would be cool to hear it with Neil reworking the drums for 2010.
Very nice teamwork!
Dadai.2
oops, that's a Phil Specter song. Thanks Vic. Yeah those backups stand out in my ear also. Glad you approve... and now on to 2010!

like the electric guitar sort of burning through in my right lobe. It's soft but there enough to really give the song serious character.
Vocals are great too!
Nicely done!
Dadai.2
The electric guitar was a late addition to the previous mix (there has now been four). I brought it up a bit and defined it better with some EQ fiddling. It burns just right for me too. Thanks Mark.
Jack

Your vocal blending sounds sweet!
Dadai.2
thanks for all of us. Vox rock... heheh, cool.

Ed Hannifin
...your best mix, Jack. It's really clear and spacious, and the performance is tight, as it has to be when the mix is clear. The guitar strums and picking are all smack dab on the beat, and Neil's country bass lands there too, and I like the drum turnarounds, too... Vocals are neat, too... and the harmonica... Guess I just like the whole thing... I particularly like the way you use the picked electric in the right channel...
And it's still a really strong song. Just missed its chance to be on Slow Train Coming...
Whatever happened to Snowdragon?
Ed
Dadai.2
It might. Thanks Ed. I had fun using ChannelStrip with this song, with the individual tracks and the overall mix. It really gave me an easier and quicker way to test out various possible mixes. Plus experimenting with various pans. The electric guitar was a late add to this song and is pared down from the last mix of 2006. I was hoping Dylan would put out a Slow Train Coming Reprise, but I think I missed that train...
cheers,
Jack

THis is what I love about this place! Enjoyed:)

Me too. Collabs are a big reason I am here.

Great levels on every track! Nice job; Neil never hurts. Real Nice Jack. I like the separation of the backing Harp and electric guitar.

Joe, thanks for the nice comments. A favorite song of mine... and it's good to know that the production side is getting good reviews.

today... and yesterday and before.
Domenic, thanks my friend for chiming in. Verse 2 is the heart of the song... you got it. That is the message of the song. Cool.
And thanks,
