Description
This song came about as I was experimenting with synths and sounds in Logic.
It reminded me of evenings stargazing through a Celestron telescope as a child...ah the possibilities in imagination!!

Music and mystery...and the sky's the limit in combining musical and sonic elements...

thank you Feter :)
I've always loved soundtracks, and there always seems to be one playing in the back of my mind, so I suppose it's apt that this sounds like a filmscore :) Thanks for your comments here.

The Memory of Stars
What a great, effective track. Spacy sounds, wonderful deep mix, love the low frequency range iuxtaposed against the high synths and your voice. An amazingly captivating sparse vocal setting. Fantastic science-fiction-audioplay. Excellent!!!

Wonderful
sci-fi - could easily be part of a cinematic soundtrack. The thing that is a real standout is your amazingly creative vocal and harmonies.
Cheers

earth-ereal
I like it... strange spacey sounds, interspersed with your crisp voice and great harmonies... funny, some of your harrmony chords sounded like, or at least reminded me of the far-off 3 AM train whistle, as it floats out across a sleeping town... I've heard that mournful sound all my life, and loved its eerie call. And I'm a nut for Eagle Nebula... you had a Celestron as a kid? Lucky you! I only had a 3" reflector from Edmund Scientific, and had to build it myself! :-)

Parts of the chorus remind me a bit of Richard Strauss ("Also Sprach Zarathustra")... you been listening to that lately?

Drakonis

Spacey...
...that's me!! ;)

There IS something about a train whistle...and I think I do tend towards those intervals when I want a sound that is more ethereal and otherwordly.
Funny, that you heard Richard Strauss in the chorus...I must confess, however, that it was Gustav Holst's The Planets ('Neptune--The Mystic') that was in the back of my mind as I approached the idea of a repetitive, fading chorus.

Thanks for listening and leaving a comment :)

Cosmic Logic...
It's true--Logic does give you a lot of options.
As someone who grew up really only using acoustic piano and voice as means of musical expression until my discovery of GarageBand in 2005, it's been a world of discovery for me to work with sound in an entirely different way.
There's no going back!

Thanks for your comments, Vic :)

the title made me think this was going to be somewhat of an enya-type piece. but boy, was i wrong! ;) this is certainly very nice, and i love the ethereal quality of the synths and vocals.

I think there was a song by Enya called "In Memory of Trees" or somesuch, but this was far and away different in concept and sound, yes--though I've been known to do my share of 'Enyaesque' music! ;)

Wow ...

.. love that Nebula .. one of my favorites :o) I kept thinking "monastery .. in space.. with a train waiting for departure" for some reason .. perhaps the various bells and chanting. Wonderfully mixed .. sweet how this experiment turned out... I was even taken aback by the vocal notes at 03:07 .. and how you had discovered the perfect pitch/harmony of an old train's whistle... quite remarkable. Lovely piece to wake up to, thanks for sharing.

Very Cool
Those opening synth sounds are right out of my early Tomita records. You create a wonderful spacious quality that would make a great planetarium laster show. Very cool piece Cat. Inventive and storytelling as it draws me along and through the stars and nebulae. I too was moved by the mysteries of the universe as a child and now do own a Celestron, although it gets much less use than my keyboard and Garageband.

Many thanks,
Doug
