What a journey Futz has put me on here! I listened to “Grandpa’s Call / Simple Gifts” and my dear, your mash up is the best. No wonder Pat holds all of you in such high esteem. I’ll admit “Simple Gifts” is my favorite folk melody and your version … move over Aaron Copland. BTW, how did you like John Williams rendition at the inauguration? Thank you.

... and I do. How you can go from "Homeland" to your interpretation of "Oh Come Emanuel" is remarkable. I'll be listening to your music into the night. In a moment of what must have been panic, Pat asked me to sing in his tenor section for his St. Raymonds Christmas Choir. That was 3 years ago and this past Christmas the tenors were fab, which leads me to believe Pat is being kind to let me hang around. I digress but to say I thought Pat and the choirs performance this year of "Oh Come Emanuel" was beautiful ... and it was. I just never thought I'd hear as moving a version as yours too … and so interpretive. You have a touch! Thanks.

... about having so much fun listening to your music. I haven't heard enough of your music yet. I might call in sick to work tomorrow so I can catch up ... but from what I've heard "Angst" and "Just a Kid", you add a dimension to the term "tone poem" that is so effective ... we get the poem too. Maybe “collage” is another term. Doesn’t really matter, I enjoy your music. Thanks.

Don't stop!
"Phosphour" … I love this groove … don’t stop! More please. Have you tried lyrics to this? What a natural piece to sing with. “Swager’s Load” takes me back to a club in Denver in the late 60’s called the “Salty Dog”. Hippies (like me) would swish colored salad oil around in a crystal cut bowl on top of an overhead projector focused on the dance floor. Trippy. That’s where I first heard a garage band from Palo Alto … the Grateful Dead. Wonderful.

let me clear out some heavy tears first... this hits the heart... the thought of slowly losing the one I'm eternally bound to is a very disturbing thought... and you've captured it with tender honesty. Great music and backing instrumentation to carry the message. I can hear that Patrick has intentionally "dulled" the other instruments (esp. piano) a bit in order that your voice stands out clearly on this, a very good thing.

Your phrasing...
...reminds me of Jack Hardy... The piano is nicely integrated with the acoustic guitar. Nice, simple mix.

And then there's the song itself, which has that clear and simple honesty that, yes, could remind one of Gene Clark, but also Guy Clark or Townes Van Zandt... Gets straight to the heart....
