Description
Falling in love is easy; staying in love is work, saying goodbye is the hardest of all. This song is about the long goodbye to a lover of 60 years as her mind slowly drifts away and her memories disappear.

Lyrics
VS 1
Lurking in the shadows, hiding in plain sight
In the early morning hours, and late at night
My eyes see you so clearly, but my heart misses you so dearly
By and by, you are gone
Fade away, together

Vs 2
Early in the waking hours, lying by your side
I can feel your gentle breath, in slumber you can hide
Loving you all these years, gently taken now with these tears
By and by, go our fears
Fade away, together

Vs 3
My darling don't be frightened, all our memories will last
Locked away inside our hearts with a lock strong and fast
We'll take our time to remember, as our love is a burning ember
By and by, burning strong
Fade away, together

Vs 4
All of life’s lessons that have guided us along
Nothing could prepare us for this ending to our song
Loving you all these years, gently taken now with our tears
By and by, we are gone
Fade away, together

Sounds not unlike...
... the late, great and surely undervalued Gene Clarke. Lovely gentle vocal perfectly matched ot the simple accompaniment. The piano is a wonderfully well balanced touch.

I like this a lot.

Devastating beauty - honesty and warmth
Welcome to MacJams. This is an extremely inspired debut. Your lyrics are so direc yet poetic at the same time - and your delivery impassioned. Wonderful playing and arrangement as well. Thanks for posting.

Thanks and Hi!
Bud, I got to listen to your first clip "Tracker Drums" and watch the video. This is too much fun. I'm gonna have to quit my job to have time to enjoy all this. When are you going to score another clip? Can't wait.

What a beautiful, heartfelt, sad and loving song. Futz's piano and cello additions especially, are gorgeous, and the combination of your talents makes for a perfectly delivered, profound production. Thanks to you both, and welcome to MJ Harn! We look forward to much more from you.

Simple Gifts simply beautiful
What a journey Futz has put me on here! I listened to “Grandpa’s Call / Simple Gifts” and my dear, your mash up is the best. No wonder Pat holds all of you in such high esteem. I’ll admit “Simple Gifts” is my favorite folk melody and your version … move over Aaron Copland. BTW, how did you like John Williams rendition at the inauguration? Thank you.

excellent
this is a wonderful song - great, honest singing - the accompaniment is just right, supporting but never taking attention away from the vocals

this brought a tear to me

thanks

You are a man of many "shifting" talents
"Seeing You In A Shifting Light" do you ever have a handle on working a tune and weaving very intricate "colors" into your music. You are making it hard for me to post my next tune ... but I do thank you!

What a wonderful touch
lump in the throat good... I love how you linger over each phrase.. each note... measuring time as it slips away... clinging to what is left... can't quite close the door or waist a moment...

excellent MJ intro

Patrick told me I'd enjoy your music
... and I do. How you can go from "Homeland" to your interpretation of "Oh Come Emanuel" is remarkable. I'll be listening to your music into the night. In a moment of what must have been panic, Pat asked me to sing in his tenor section for his St. Raymonds Christmas Choir. That was 3 years ago and this past Christmas the tenors were fab, which leads me to believe Pat is being kind to let me hang around. I digress but to say I thought Pat and the choirs performance this year of "Oh Come Emanuel" was beautiful ... and it was. I just never thought I'd hear as moving a version as yours too … and so interpretive. You have a touch! Thanks.

There must be a law
... about having so much fun listening to your music. I haven't heard enough of your music yet. I might call in sick to work tomorrow so I can catch up ... but from what I've heard "Angst" and "Just a Kid", you add a dimension to the term "tone poem" that is so effective ... we get the poem too. Maybe “collage” is another term. Doesn’t really matter, I enjoy your music. Thanks.

Stop, I'll never catch up!
Kenta, your discography is enormous and after listening to about 6 different tunes, all unique, its time for bed ... more tomorrow. Your craftsmanship is so broad. How you do that? I'm seriously interested in your process because your results are all varied and the music remains strong. Thank you.

Don't stop!
"Phosphour" … I love this groove … don’t stop! More please. Have you tried lyrics to this? What a natural piece to sing with. “Swager’s Load” takes me back to a club in Denver in the late 60’s called the “Salty Dog”. Hippies (like me) would swish colored salad oil around in a crystal cut bowl on top of an overhead projector focused on the dance floor. Trippy. That’s where I first heard a garage band from Palo Alto … the Grateful Dead. Wonderful.

I'm Charmed
1:14 AM, on Sunday, September 07, 2008 was so last year. When do we get to hear more? Please. YOu can't just stop at "Charming". Do you write lyrics because Pete NB has some serious grooves that beg for words. I’m very happy to be in the fold of all your charms. Thank you.

Oof
let me clear out some heavy tears first... this hits the heart... the thought of slowly losing the one I'm eternally bound to is a very disturbing thought... and you've captured it with tender honesty. Great music and backing instrumentation to carry the message. I can hear that Patrick has intentionally "dulled" the other instruments (esp. piano) a bit in order that your voice stands out clearly on this, a very good thing.

Welcome to Macjams! Now, where's my happy juice! :-)

Oof back atcha
Eduard, Since we’ve only just met here, I feel like I’m sneaking into your house to listen to you play. I’ll leave this note on your kitchen table … Eduard, you and Mark really hit it with “Retreat of the Dragons”. This begs some lyrics. As for “Quixotic Dreams” beautiful piece and phrasing. I love your classical guitar work.
I hear footsteps, gotta go. Thanks.

Hi Doug, Thanks for listening to my tune and now it is my turn to enjoy your tracks. I’m really enjoying “The Road”. The image of Dave Kerouac came to mind. Was this intentional? Doesn’t matter because it is really affective. Very cool. Thanks.

Hi Feter, I love your voice both alone on "Survivor", with the Roxylee on "Arise" and with your band on "When the Sun Goes Down". I think your blues tunes highlight your vocal character the best. Keep the blues coming. Thanks and let's keep trading tunes.

Serious Attitude
"Stop Yer Messin With Me" – Great vocals and attitude. I’ll behave! I’m on dangerous ground here as I try to visualize what you two are like outside this song. I’ll bet you both watch each other’s backs.
"Confirmation" – OK, I’m jealous of your music Santa … Here comes the biggest pick up line on MJ ... "can we collaborate sometime"?

Love Survives
Seems like a lousy payoff, this Death thing. But so much must have been gained to feel such a great loss. Love survives... and so does she... in your heart. That much is for sure. Very poignant song with some very tasteful accompaniment from our friend, Patrick.

Nicely done.

Welcome to MacJams. ;)

Your phrasing...
...reminds me of Jack Hardy... The piano is nicely integrated with the acoustic guitar. Nice, simple mix.

And then there's the song itself, which has that clear and simple honesty that, yes, could remind one of Gene Clark, but also Guy Clark or Townes Van Zandt... Gets straight to the heart....

Welcome to MacJams. Any friend of Patrick's, as we say around here...
