Description
Omar sent me this delightful dance track on which to do my thing, which this time was to spin a strange and provocative yarn of The Pauper & the Queen. My thanks to Alannah also, for allowing me to manipulate her voice for the role of the frustrated Queen. We hope you enjoy our tale...

Omar (YosL/Yohmar): keys, beats
Daniel (Luna Trick): guitars, vocals, lyrics
Alannah: vocals

Lyrics
The Pauper & the Queen (Lyrics by Luna Trick)

Come with me and I'll spin a peculiar scene
Of a story that involves a Pauper and a Queen
A more comely beggar you have never seen
He tantalized her in each and every dream
Where she saw through the rags and tatters on his frame
From the window where she touched herself again and again and again

Your applause is so generous... but your mind so odious
That you'd stand this close to us... and represent the most to us
I revile your innocence... your awkward. gamely commoner's stance
I shun your games of chance... your mutinous eyes of romance
I dig a finger in my soul... and tear at the ragged hole
I claw at dirt like an anxious mole... boaring at my elusive goal

I got castles
I got walls
Endless riches
Golden malls
I got sunshine
In my blood
I got jewels
Every place I should
I got brimstone
In my fist
I wield power
You get my drift?

You ain't gonna buy it with your snow white pearls
You ain't gonna win it with your golden curls
Your monarchy logic ain't no good here
Your lust-money magic won't get you very near
How's it feel to want, quivering queen
Gonna make you chant... gonna make you scream

Prison bars are golden
To a dream you are beholden
Just a widow in the window
Exulted Queen I made low
Who's the pauper now dear
Subject to your royal fear

Time to quit this scene
Of the Pauper and the Queen
Cos the story's lost its sheen
The Pauper and the Queen
The Pauper and the Queen
The Pauper and the Queen
The Pauper is the Queen

Solid
Nice groove and excellent production. I like the guitar parts too. Alannah's voice sounds exotic. Very well done!

You are diabolical,
Daniel. Alannah does sound pained. The dance beat was inviting while the story was cautionary. Very Luna Trick. Does she get even, in part two? I hope so.
The artwork is really bewitching and very appropriate. All around, unique. Thanks, all.

She is pained...
Cos these are vocals she did for something else... and she let me manipulate them for my evil purposes here. Of course she gets even in the next one... what do you think?

Very Cool
I really think your vocal performance makes this tune - very well done. Your phrasing is top notch. The musical performance is solid, and your beat forces movement of some kind - for myself it is my knee, bouncing to the rhythm! This was fun to listen to - thanks!

The SOUND...
...just draws me in from the first note...That sliding stereo with bongos is a very cool idea, Daniel, and gives a really broad ambiance to your whole mix. Actually, the MIX is really wonderful: lots of control over each element, a painstaking process to be sure...but you pull it off with professional sound quality. The rhythm track is insistent, but it never takes over, either. Nice sound from beginning to end. Wonderful.
Peace.

The credit for the drums
Goes to Omar (Yos or Yohmar depending which site you're on). I had a lot of fun with his rhythm track and tried to build a strange tale around it!

I am truly amazed
at the enormous output and consistently high quality of your work Daniel. I realize this is a collaboration, and a good one too, but it must be the 47th post in the last week alone for you ;-)
In any case, as the others have said, very well done.
Cheers, Richard.

I always
forget how a bass can enhance a groove and take it to the stratosphere.
I wish I have a bass.
Anyway, the mix of romantic lyrics and the electronic sound is delightful. Also, the lyrics are very very intelligent. And Daniel is my favorte vocalist on macjams along with Michael 2 and BoiAfrica.Man you are so versatile!I wish I could write a samba and send for you to sing!

I like.
Good mix with many tasty ingredients.

By the 1:40 mark I was thinking that I'd been hearing a bit much of that swirly pad. And then it suddenly was gone, including in places like around 2:12, where I was expecting it to reappear. Maybe you're a bit much switching sounds on and off, making for somewhat abrupt transitions? Just a feeling I have.

Fair point Vic...
The drums and keyboards were in the original track by Omar - I added bass, guitar, and vocals. I tried to address the repetitive nature of the piece by not adhering to standard verse chorus vocal construction.

... Daniel ... I thought this was our little secret .. hahahahaha Glad you were able to put my "bansheeing" to good use .... this sounds great!

You are so great Alannah...
I wouldn't manipulate anyone's voice like that... except yours.... because I knew you would take it with good grace and humour. I have promised Char that in the sequel - you will have your vengeance!

Surprised again
With the exception of some of the by now over-used loops, this is really creative once again. A great collab, all the vocals brings it together. I am once again have to submit my embarrassment; one of my own songs starts exactly like this, same loops! :) But, we are here to learn. Love your voice, as well as Alannah's which is a little bit on the back scene on this one, yet powerful, especially in its breathing moments.
