Description
(Apologies to all who commented on the original post of this song. I didn't notice the bass was as distorted as it was before uploading. I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing I'd let such sloppiness slide. I had to fix it and repost. If you downloaded the original--trash it and take this one instead...)

----Getting into the swing of 2009 with a experimental cut that has been floating around the hard drive for a while. Partnered with SonnyJim, who leant his remarkable talents to this with additional instrumentation and automations, as well as the kind of epiglottal meanderings only he is capable of.

Rid, I appreciate the listen. You are one of my favs out here in MJ land. Your productivity as of late has put a fire under my ass big-time. Real volume and real quality. You are a real inspiration. This was fun tune to do. Tried not to be too precious or tweak-y with it, just get it out there and let it fly.

love all the background sounds in this. You never know what Sonny is using to get them. Heavy duty Bass on this.. Almost floating in my head even after the song is played. Great collab and great production. Loved it!

Hey Tim
I'm glad you like this one.
The voice/violin is a heavily time-stretched section of a heavily flanged vocal. The stretching gives it that 'slowly bowed' sound and also extends a lot of the artifacts that were in the original vocal track. I don't think GB has a time-stretch feature, but you could probably get a similar result by bouncing a track at an exponentially lower tempo than it was recorded at. The bell sounds are 2 midi tracks: 'Acoustic Harmonics' and 'Celesta' playing almost the same notes.
Those are my secrets; almost everything else is Phil's doing!
Thank you again for your kind words.

As always, I remain,

SJ

I was about to say that this mix sounds great
then I read that it's the new one. Great work here. Really a new direction for you - and an excellent one at that. This doesn't sound like anything else out there - it has a very original feel. Definitely explore this vein some more. The bass is super sweet and I love the space of the production - if you know what I mean. Nice collab - keep it going.

Kev, Thanks for dropping BACK by. I am warmed by the number of folks who came by to give a second listen and comment...I hope to be posting more experimental numbers this year. I am loosing the self-editing artist strings this year. You have been a real inspiration to me in that way. Your personal range is amazing.

Moody and Blue
Great that you guys are working together again... this makes me realise how much you were missed. Great mix and mood (the drums are loud for you, Phil). I kinda like the odd distorted vocal, tho' this would suit 'proper' vox too. Asit is, its a lovely and slightly disturbing piece... riders on the storm for a darker time

riders
Hey Steve. I hadn't put together the 'riders on the storm' analogy myself, but now that you say so, I agree, it does have that haunting, floating quality that the Doors were so adept at achieving. It;s is nice to be missed, and you my friend have been missed as well. I hope we are both back!

Let a comment on the previous mix , hope you got it (it's late in Paris, got back from work and far too tired to repeat in english). Just this : this is great stuff, boys. I trashed the original one and took this one. Thanks mille fois !

Youra, Thanks for coming back and getting the better mixed one. It just pained me too much to think of getting a crappy mix live out here in cyber-space. Merci mon ami!

epiglottal meanderings
What you said.....

Perfectly fat bass line and fantastic atmospheric collage of all kinds of noises. This has a contagious groove to it and I have to say that this PROJECT is anything but BEAT.

Nice CLAB guys.
