Description
This is one of my more ambitious GB songs -- a lot of tracks and working with software instruments. Frustrating but I couldn't get this song out of my head and had to record it.

Lyrics

Traveled 'round the country
Saw my share of tears
Once smiling people
Wore a coat of fears

Worried that their loved ones
Would fall to the hand
Of aggressive people
From a distant land

Refrain:
Rise up, rise up
Cast off your fear
Rise up, rise up
And terror will disappear

"Have you seen these bad men?"
I asked. And they said, "No.
"But they're coming, you will see
Cuz the TV tells us so!"

I could see the panic
In each pair of eyes
"No one needs to come here.
You're already terrorized."

::Refrain::

A gruff man came forward
Stood 'bout six foot four
"We don't like no strangers
Knocking at our door."

He growled low and frightened
"You don't look like me.
You're one of them! Come to
Kill my family!"

::Refrain::

Perhaps I should have run then
Didn't want to die
But I couldn't leave them
Had to give it one more try

"Fight your war on terror
Deep within your heart.
Live your life in freedom
And fear plays no part!"

::Refrain::

it needs something...
The lyrics and message behind your song are great.
The music is not bad, but what you really need is a
live band with a gospel choir here... give this song
what it deserves! I know, I know, money doesn't
grow on trees... but I can dream, can't I? Anyway, it
was an enjoyable tune and I look forward to your
submissions.

I agree. It would be much better performed live, with a choir. 3am in my apt.
just doesn't make for good belting.

Rise Up
Great meaningful, heartfelt song about how the USA has
been hijacked by fear mongers in Washington and on Fox
news. Best part is that "Fight the war on terror deep
within your heart. Live your life in freedom and fear plays
no part." Great lyrics, great voice, and yes I agree with a
previous post, this song deserves a full gospel choir.

Thank you, mgauding. It's always a thrill when someone mentions the lyrics.
I'll admit that I tried not to make it too partisan. I didn't want this to be a rant
in either direction. I just hate to see people living in fear.

Gospel truth
Yes, a gospel chorus would be great. Love your low vocal
range, your layered vocals. This is a solid Gospel, R&B
tune (I'd change the music category from Pop). The
arrangement is a little repetitive, mainly becuz the piano
seems to be a cut and pasted loop and it makes the song
seem repetitive, even tho you have added very good other
instrumental layers (especially the organ). I'd change the
piano track more often, let the unique colors of different
verses come thru. Very cool organ solo. And let yourself
to sing it out even more (your vocals are sometimes sung
with a softness or delicacy that doesn't match the in-
your-face instrumentation).

I agree with the comments on the piano and the singing. I was hamered by a
finite number of loops for the piano, and used almost all of them (that fit this
song/style). As for the singing, it was the real-world problem of recording in
the middle of the night (when there are no neighborhood noises) and feeling
constrained by neighbors a thin wall away. This song does need to be belted.

I must admit...
...that I didn't really care for this track so much -- the
vocal harmonies sounded a bit out of tune, and the piano
accompaniment was slightly frenzied. You do have a nice
quality to your voice, though.

The lyrics seemed a little strange, but I appreciate the
heart behind them.

I understand the problems you had with it. Sorry about that.

Nice
vocal arrangement althougth I'd perfer a more soulful
singing style for this particular genre. I as Tobin mention
earlier I really enjoy your deep voice. You are aware you
set the bar so high with "Aliens are Dancing on the Milky
Way" I except blown away with everypost. :)

I agree that it needs a much more robust performance. Thank you for the nice
words about Aliens!

great lyrics-like the message
very cool organ solo in there! think the vocals were a little
bit loud compared to the rest of the tracks, not terribly
much, but enough to be noticeable. nice example of song
structure (i'm tryin to learn this). nice job putting this all
together in GB! sounds great to me

Thank you, _nder! The file had a life of its own, and although the mix
sounded great in GB, it never sounded the same in Mp3. I think I exported it
at least a dozen times, just doing sound tweaks, trying to make the mp3
sound like GB. Eventually, I gave up. I do hear what you mean, though. The
vocals are still too hot.

Can I get an Amen?
You have a nice melody/harmony arrangement here. I agree with the above comments about genre and chorale parts. I think a stronger bridge and more instrumental variety between the verse/chorus would tighten this piece right up.

You might integrate the vocals and the piano a bit by assigning them the same reverb space. I'd also be interested to hear two distinct vocal treatments in the verse; one low, soft, and close without reverb and the other really belted out (of course, that all depends on your microphone capabilities). There are a lot of lyrics and greater vocal variety will help keep the listener engaged.

Nitpicking aside, this is a good song in the gospel revival tradition. Maybe you can get a few folks to collab on a chorus? After all, just a couple of voices with a little delay and stereo separation can sound like a mob! (6-6-7-6)

Can I get an Amen?
It would be a blast to get a chorus on this one. That's one thing it needs. But
I'll admit that my Mac just couldn't handle this file, and adding more might
make my computer and my head explode. Still, it would be fun.

Carol Pope?
You have a vocal sound similar to this Canadian singer. I
like your rendition of this song. Vocals are right up front
and very up beat. I kinda wanted to hear more reverb
during the refrain... to let it ring out. That piano is bright
and the organ sounds very full.

Did you play all the parts?

Carol Pope?
Unfortunately, I don't play any instruments. Everything is loops.

I like the song
Not sure I'm so jazzed about the execution. There are
some brave things you did in here, though. The end
vocals don't have that vocal improv flavor I think you were
going for, but I'm happy you tried it. Sounds to me like
you're searching for the way to use your singing voice. I
could be wrong, but that's the vibe I get. Just about every
track I've done is me trying to find the voice I like the
most, heh!

The song itself is a great idea, gospel is definitely the way
it's leaning, but perhaps trying a different approach due to
tha difficulty of getting a live band and gospel choir?
Maybe make it a ballad or folks song?

Ths 60s are back
This reminds me of something.

Nice work on the backing tracks; solo voice is fine too.

I'm not sure about the harmony vocals. They're hitting too
many inharmonious intervals.

Thank you for listening, T-Vic. I'll be the first to admit this isn't my best song
by a longshot. I enjoy experimenting with different genres and moods, and
this one simply didn't work out too well. Win some, lose some!

Rise Up by Joanna
Amazingly uplifting lyrics! Watch your pitch. Let the music accelerate a little more mid song, and could be a little louder. Other than those tiny improvements, you've got a good start!

Lots of problems with this song. I forgot it was here and should've taken it down. Gospel isn't my strong suit. Thank you for the comment, though!
