COSMOLOGY for 3 CELLI

Description
The cello is always seen as a sad, melancholy, sweet, ethereal instrument - and it is all those things - but I wanted to create a piece to illustrate other moods and languages that the instrument is capable of producing. Thus, you are about to embark on a cosmology of spruce, maple, steel-wound perlon, pernambucco, horsehair, and human flesh. Let me know how you find it....

CelloCetacean
UnterWasser journey through celloplankton and bioluminescent bow-fish. Excellent bit of experimentia. Now, how do I actually score some of those sounds on the staff? :-) Great fun, and expertly played forward backward and upside-down, Daniel.

Just write in your score...
"Lunatronics" and I will apply. Seriously looking forward to working with you... whether it's experimental or traditional. Music is a diverse language... and a working with a linguist like yourself will be a pleasure!

I always wondered what the plural of cello was
Stunning playing ... it's certainly experimental but incredibly expressive and rich in textures and colours - quintessentially cello without sounding anything like the 'normal' cello style, as you say.

Cosmology or moon magic? Bloody love it anyway.

Yes Ridd.
String instruments are essentially drums too... the strings being stretched like skins over a hollow wooden cavity. I'm really interested in that element of both cello and acoustic guitar.

Very good
Daniel.
It really makes one look at the cello (and listen to) on different perspectives.

leave room for cello
outside of guitars I have always found the sounds of a cello fascinating.

very cool variety of sounds. Plus a neat orchestration to top the bill

True Vic...
I have been laboring over the mechanics of micing acoustic cello - and now I am fairly satisfied, some more of this is in order. I have an electric cello - but it's not the same!

Amazing
Daniel, This is just a stunning display of your instrument. I have never heard all of these sounds wrapped into one package. This is more than just an experiment: you have also shown the many facets of the cello's soul (and, I dare say, your own!) in this strange and beautiful composition. What a breadth of character your instrument possesses. I am so glad I heard this. You certainly are demonstrating an awesome mastery of this instrument. Wow.
Peace.

So glad Paul
Your comments are valuable as a great composer/player in your own right. I hope this doesn't scare you off writing a piece for me - as I love traditional forms too (as I recently did with Kassia's piece)

Hi Daniel.......
I'm gonna hafta listen to this a few more times before I could possibly get under the hood as to how this piece effects/affects me.

I love the world-village mix of many disparate things that make a cello talk, and of the polyglot result of man-machine-mind.

You've only touched the surface here and to me it was/is a wonderful ride through a different soundscape.

I'm gonna MIDI-fy it and play around...

Take care.

Paul

Splendid!
Luna madness is the kind of madness I could listen to all day. A truly splendid variety of textures that really show off what the cello can do. I'll line this one up for the podcast show.

Horse hair
Sounds like some minimalistic sixties experiment . I picture skintight black leotards prancing about with skull faces lightly plucking daisies out of factory plumes.. sorry what was I saying. Great experiment!!!!

If you say so...
It does have that experimental element - Ligetti, Penderecki, Branca, etc. - but that's cool with me!

exploration
this sounds like some late night wanderings, deep into dreams and lost in darkness. inspired and mad all at the same time. i love the different textures you've achieved, the percussive elements. sound and recording is gorgeous. an incredible array of opportunity. you could take each one of these sounds and thoughts and develop them into their own separate piece. this is brilliant stuff daniel. well done.

Wild and beautiful stuff
Reminds me too of some contemporary music's composers.
And it certainly shows the scope
of this unique instrument.

Thanks for the ride.
