Description
After receiving GargeBand as a gift from two of my daughters in the spring of 2004, I wrote my first two "non-family" themed songs. Like many I searched the internet to see if there was a place to submit songs for others to hear and respond to. I soon found MacJams.
This is one of two songs I first submitted at MacJams in June of 2004. The other was "Dreamers Like Me." This one has always been one of my favorites. I uploaded a remix in 2006. Shortly after that I lost the GB master file. I had hoped to redo the entire song for the festival, but it didn't happen. So what I have done with this new version is take that last 2006 mix (which included new vocals and electric guitar riffs) and run it through ChannelStrip to create what is a clearer and more unified mix. I also cut the drum loop intro. The song still deserves a redo... maybe for the next reunion.
The song is about searching and longing for something more in life, a transcendent and lasting home. It's set to rather upbeat, fast-paced music.

Lyrics
Chorus:
Sometimes I feel like I’’m falling
Sometimes I feel so all alone.
Sometimes I think I’m going nowhere.
Sometimes I want to go home,
But I just don’t know the way.
1.
Another day, they say, another dollar.
What’s it get you? Only bread.
It’s a living! But that’s a question.
So you’re full, you’re still feeling dead.
Who’s your friend? Your wife, your son, your daughter?
Who walks with you the extra mile?
What would I give to find an answer?
Separate the truth from the lies.
[Chorus]
2.
The grass, they say, is always greener,
Once you’ve reached the other side.
So you run, but never get there.
Another dream of yours has died.
The other day as I was working,
Customers in my face.
I cried, “Hey what’s the problem?”
I think it’s me and not this place.
[Chorus]
3.
It’s the question through the ages.
What’s the purpose of it all?
On and on the battle rages,
In my head and in my heart.
Do we live this life for no damn reason?
Something says there’s something more.
Where’s the way, hey when’s the season,
That leads me to that ancient door?
[Chorus]
Don’t you want to go home?

And your delivery of them is spot on. This is great as is, but I can also see potential for a redo, if for no other reason than you've learned a lot since you did this version. And that new knowledge and experience will allow you to make changes and do things in ways you didn't know about before.
Never the less, I really like the song and the sounds you put together for with version. It's a great song my friend.

p.s. I've have some ideas for minor tweaks on the lyrics if you want to hear them. Mostly just a word or re-phasing of the odd line here or there. Let me know Jack.
