Description
So, the brief was to redo something from the first year, or write about something that happened that year. Well, the only song I posted in my first year (apart from the one I took back down again almost as soon as I'd put it up - the less said about that the better!) was Hoping for a Hurricane, which I just redid and reposted, so that left me with something that happened that year. So, I decided to write about finding MacJams. It was sheer chance that led me here, and a spirit of fraternity that has kept me around. This, then, is a song about this place, for this place, and dedicated to everyone here who makes this place what it is. Thank you, Simon and Miguel for making it happen, and thank you, brothers and sisters for making it magic.
Special thanks, of course, goes to jiguma; dude, this is a great idea. Thanks for putting it together and encouraging us all to join in. You the man.
I've kind of been squeezed for recording and mixing time recently, so this is not as tweaked and fluff-free as I'd like it, but I hope you get the idea.
Peace.
David
P.S. The picture is my original avatar when I signed up; my kids were bored one day and thought it would be hilarious to give me a mohawk. I think they were right.

Lyrics
Across the Wire
Slow down
Tell me, where are you going?
Tell me, why are you hiding?
Brother, what have you done?
You know
I can hear it inside you
Let me travel beside you
Brother, what have you done?
Hey girl
I don’t know where I’m going
I don’t know why I’m hiding
Sister, what have I done?
Hey girl
I can hear it inside me
When you’re standing beside me
Sister, look what you’ve done
There I was
Looking for something useful
What do you know
I end up with something real
And I was lost
Looking for something truthful
Now here I go
Ready to spin that wheel
I hear a mighty chorus
Like a thousand hearts on fire
The night is deep and dark but
We run free across the wire
Slow down
Tell me, where are you going?
Tell me, what are you hiding?
Show me, what have you done?
Slow down
Tell me, where are you going?
Tell me, why are you hiding?
Brother, what have you done?
You know
I can hear it inside you
Let me travel beside you
Brother, what have you done?
Hey girl
I don’t know where I’m going
I don’t know why I’m hiding
Sister, what have I done?
Hey girl
I can hear it inside me
When you’re standing beside me
Sister, look what you’ve done
There I was
Looking for something useful
What do you know

And I was lost
Looking for something truthful
Now here I go
Ready to spin that wheel
I hear a mighty chorus
Like a thousand hearts on fire
The night is deep and dark but
We run free across the wire
Slow down
Tell me, where are you going?
Tell me, what are you hiding?
Show me, what have you done?

This is beautifully recorded (even though you admit to not having tweaked it the way you'd like). The bass, guitars, and percussion are amazing. Are these all loops? You've glued them all together so seamlessly. I am very much impressed with the production and clarity of this whole number. Your voice, too, is terrific: so clear. In a "rock" song of this nature, one rarely hears the lyric, but you have managed to keep all the volumes UP and still make your voice clear as a bell. Wow. Very VERY nice, indeed. What a beautiful number.
Peace.
Paul
