From Bryn:
a room by the river
the old bmc studio is winding down now - the drum machines aren't keeping perfect time, the synths and reverbs are faulty, the music is coming out of faulty chipsets and tired performance algorithms.
however, old hard drives still contain sparkly gems that catches the magpies eyes and ears.
particledots recently posted some files called A.N. for open collaboration from one of these dusty drives. the files for the A.N. collaboration (the guitar parts at least) were adapted from an old bibanova song called 'there's nothing' (circa 2003). this song also featured a great vocal performance by robert shaw.
after stevel, bud and diviner's great versions made from the AN open collaboration files, particledots had the idea that it would be good to try and reincorporate robert's original vocal. then came mystified's amazing reinterpretation, the perfect sound bed
however, in regards to the sound on this song...as mentioned above, the bmc studio is run down and running on very low power....so this is not the finished version
the new bmc studio should be up and running in the next couple of months and this track (along with a number of other sonic magpie gems) will surface in a greatly enhanced form.
From Cat:
When Bryn invited MacJammers to rework his song "A.N." I downloaded the files as well. As other remixes were posted, I wanted to twist this one around and see how it looked inside out....maybe upside-down.
As it turned out, I turned three of the tracks inside out, slowed the whole thing down, and then added Sculpture synth (in Logic), electronic piano, and improvised, ethereal vocals.
Sending it back to Bryn for a listen, I knew he was knee-deep in uprooting and moving, so I didn't expect him to work on it before that process was completed.
But of course, in typical particledots fashion, he added something--the main vocal--and turned it into something brilliant.
Thank you, B! "Polished" or not, it sparkles...

Monkaton
Great sounds and production. I especially liked the backward sounding synths as well as the vocal backing and overall synths.
Lyrics and melody are also well done.
