Description
A Rebsie-Luna Trick collaboration has been on the cards for a while. So I sent Daniel a track of my guitar-twanging to play with, and was blown away by what he sent back.
You may have noticed I'm a prodigious user of GarageBand-cello in my music ... so you can imagine what a delight it is for me to hear my voice against a very beautifully played real cello.
It was Ed Hannifin who prompted me to dig out this song. He posted a tribute to the late Davy Graham on the forum recently, and when I mentioned my special love for Davy's collaboration with English folk goddess Shirley Collins in 1964, Ed responded with a link to their version of this song, and since then I haven't been able to get it out of my head.
My heartfelt thanks to Daniel, who has been a joy to work with.
Rebsie: vocals, 12-string guitar
Daniel: cello

Lyrics
Love Is Pleasing
words and music traditional
arranged by Rebsie Fairholm and Daniel Staniforth
Oh love is teasing and love is pleasing
And love's a treasure when first it's new
But as love grows older at length grows colder
And fades away like the morning dew
I left my mother and I left my father
I left my brothers and sisters too
I left my home and my fond relations
I left them all for the love of you
Now if I'd known before I courted
That love had been so hard to hold
I'd have locked my heart in a box of silver
And bound it fast with a key of gold
words and music traditional

And love's a treasure when first it's new
But as love grows older at length grows colder
And fades away like the morning dew

I left them all for the love of you
Now if I'd known before I courted
That love had been so hard to hold
I'd have locked my heart in a box of silver
And bound it fast with a key of gold
