Description
An emotional outburst of love for my new home in California recorded in 2006. The lead guitar was done by my bro' Andrew VanDusen, all the rest was me. Not remixed, not re-mastered, just offered up as it was when I joined and had no fans yet....sniff sniff.... And no, I'm not a Bible thumper, nor particularly religious, not have I have any real animosity toward either....just a modern agnostic post-dust bowl rock spiritual done in my own way, an homage to the most beautiful state in the Union.

Lyrics
Jesus & California

Philip VanDusen
2006

As long as there’s Jesus and California
As long as there’s Jesus and California
I won’t be afraid to tell you I was born there
I was born there

I carry my coffee and my sheets of rumpled stories
I carry my coffee and my sheets of rumpled stories
And I slick back my hair and walk in the sunset to my glory
To my glory

The earth smells like a piano on a ten year-old afternoon
The earth smells like a piano on a ten year-old afternoon
I slick back my hair and I will walk out to the moon
Walk up to the moon

I love the fields of California in the folds of my mother’s shirt
I love the fields of California in the folds of my mother’s shirt
And I love the dirt in my hands for what it’s worth

Jesus and California

Well Bro, you got one now!! This is one hell of an emotional outburst!! I love the chugging bluesy feel of the rhythm and the sounds of the guitars is just dangerous. Love it bro. Great Post!

agnostic post dust bowl
should be the name of a new football college playoff game..seriously Philip nice tunage. Lots of amazingly crunchy guitars creating a ripping bed. And your vocal sounds great. Just the right attitude and "in your face" slant.

"The earth smells like a piano on a ten year-old afternoon", not sure why but this totally resonated with me.

A classic,
of course. Loose, jangly, crunchy. A fine rocker, and a worthy addition to the festival. Carry on.

That rhythm guitar....
...is to be offered to the gods... THAT is some kind of crunch... I shouldn't have listened to this just before bed, though... I think this song has effected something in the line of genetic amygdalish warpage...

That's not necessarily bad, though....

Great title
... and the song lives up to it. Love the coffee line- reminds me of a modern day carrying his latte cross. The mix is ace (even then) and the vocal is a kinda slurred 'fuck you' - kicking stuff PVD

Whoo!
Love it! This just blasts outs of the phones. Lovely guitar on this (nice job to your bro) and I really like the vocal. Has that attitude and swagger that characterizes the best rock music. Some really good lines in here too ("Ten year old afternoon" - love it!) and a great set of images. Walking out to the moon. Sweet. Nicely done. Glad you brought this one back. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Wow...
This is so cool on many levels. First off the lyrics are fantastic. Second, love that raw guitar and driving beat (reminds me of some early Soundgarden). Last, man that solo wails. Total package.
