Description
Daniel's note:
Some of you might be familiar with Michael Jay Klein's wonderful Jazz vocals (goes by Uncle Moe on iComps). I was thrilled when sent me this piece and allowed me to add to it. What a great time I had. It's been a while since I tried to do something like a jazz standard but I tried to tread lightly and add tastefully. I added a guitar line, which goes into a venetian tremolo at a certain point. The bass is also real! I was initially going to do it on a keyboard - then thought why not keep it authentic - so I had a go with my DB. It was somewhat audacious of me to add vocals - but I've been studying his vocal work and couldn't resist the opportunity. I wanted it to keep it traditional - but with a luna glow perhaps.

Moe's Note:
I was delighted that Daniel asked if he could add his inestimable talents to this recording of mine. Daniel, it was a great pleasure and your work has me beaming here! Mind you, all he got from me was my voice and the piano. Everything else you hear is the master at work.

You may be familiar with that old phrase, "The melody lingers on." It came from this song.

Thank you so very much and thanks all for listening!

Take good care now,

Michael

Classic Casual
So nice. Love the tune, the classic feel casually applied to one of the great songs from the golden age of American songwriting. A delight. Thanks for letting me know about this one. Definitely goes into my Nightclub playlist.

Irving Berlin was a giant.

My favorite part...
...of this duet is the dialogue between piano and guitar about 1/2 way in. Very authentic and sounds like it was recorded live. That's the beauty (well, one of them at least) of such careful collaboration from great musicians. You two are a natural and how fun it is to hear a vocal jazz standard rendered with attention to details. Very nice, indeed. Now, when's the CD coming out?
Peace.

Thanks Paul
I originally played a much more sophisticated guitar solo that walked all over the piano - then took it out for something more simple and complimentary. Glad to hear it worked. Michael just signed up at MacJams by the way - and I think you two will hit it off!

Great work
Sounds something like "Cherokee" in the first phrase. I have got to check out this Alan McPike person. What wonderful piano playing. Well-recorded and nicely executed. Vocals are soulful and sweet. Reminds me of Peter Cincotti. Actually, your vocals remind me of Peter C. also. A pleasure.

This was always a great song
When I first heard it, I was very young, and I where always very confused by the line: "...the song has ended, but the melody lingers on..." What a great collab. Sounds like a live take. All instrumentation is so masterfully crafted, performed with passion and heart; the totality can only be described as a success, at least in my book. I think this version is a bit more melancholy than the original(s), but it could also be because it's early Monday morning. I save it for a late night. A Cocktail. Under the moonlight. Thank you for this great contribution.
