Lyrics
The Pretender (by Luna Trick)

I parked the car and walked the back streets
Fighting the rigors of my conscience
Moon shadows of terraced gardens
Danced upon my agitation
Threshing out the seeds of memory
Coming to the same conclusions about you
About you
About you

Kaleidoscopic is my world view
I don't know what to make of it
Colours clash in the prism
The single cry of a screech owl
Slices through preoccupation
Struggling for revisions here about you
About you
About you

Pretending
Pretending
I mean these bitter words that I'm sending
But how to finish dreams that have no ending
And how to break a heart where there's no bending
I'm Pretending
I'm Pretending
I'm Pretending

I walk until I reach the morning
Sparkling on an old horizon
Orange orb on the precipice
Inviting new renditions
Searching for new history
Looking for new memories about you

Pretending
Pretending
I mean these bitter words that I'm sending
But how to finish dreams that have no ending
And how to break a heart where there's no bending
I'm Pretending
I'm Pretending
I'm Pretending

I cut a straight line to the future
Past the stares of old acquaintance
Through the market of redemption
Trinkets traded above their value
I'm walking by without a second thought
Abandoning the mystery that is you

Pretending
Pretending
I mean these bitter words that I'm sending
But how to finish dreams that have no ending
And how to break a heart where there's no bending
I'm Pretending
I'm Pretending
I'm Pretending
I'm Pretending

Quite inspired
and resonant lyrics. "But how to finish dreams that have no ending?" I get lost in your imagery. But, somehow, the mood is encouraging. Thank you. both, for a lovely, enchanting piece of music.

Convincing
I agree with edpdx - the strength of this song is its uniqueness. It creates its own atmosphere and stays true to it throughout. The anguish is palpable.

Nice job putting together a dynamic arrangement, as well.

Well done, gentlemen.

Excellent!
Hmmm... interesting lyrics! Of course, maybe you're acting as a "writer" and not meaning anything by them in your "real" life...

Curious!

Excellent song, as always, my friend!

My writing is a strange process Ra
Sometimes it is subconscious coming out - sometimes fantasy - sometime fabrication - Poetry, parody, you name it!

So you've figured out how to
write in your sleep. It's the only explanation I can come up with to explain your prodigious output. I really like the spanish/classical treatment you gave this one. I hear a touch of Bryan Ferry in the vocals - a good thing. Excellent collab - you make a good team.

I admire Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music - so that's a compliment. Sleep-composing is about right!

Pretending______

Like it Lune, however I think you could bring the vocals up a bit in the mix for my taste. Music is very nice and dreamy and well played.

Nice work - Thanks for sharing,

Much of the praise for the arrangement should go to NSS as well - he always lays down provocative beats and synth work. I graft on textures and mood layerings!

My, my...
...that BASS is something else. Your choices for instrumentation and then the general mix is pretty awesome: it's controlled and intelligent and the choices are brilliant. This isn't must I listen to much (at all!), but when I hear a great production like this, I am always impressed with the kind of musicianship that drives it. (My one crit is my inability to understand the lyrics unless I read them. I must be losing my hearing...well, actually, I am. I mainly get distracted by the other things going on, so I can't focus. I have the same problem with TV shows that play music over dialogue... Anyway, for whatever it's worth.)
Peace.

As I remarked above, I tend to mix my vocals low - due to pervading shyness! I'm glad you give this sort of stuff a chance - and recognize different forms of musicianship!

Great, again
Cool beats and structures. Love the vocals. The guitar is surprising, with other words not expected as is. Reminds me of Gorillas or The Good..etc. The bas is really tight. Then vocals are a little bit "in the can". I had the same problem and invested in a good microphone, which change my world, not the map. This is really creative! Thank you!

Thanks Mikki
I love Gorallaz and TGTB&TQ - all of Alban's work really. As for the vox, I did invest in a good condenser recently - and perhaps I'm still learning how to use it. Thanks for listening - I really enjoy your music a lot!

Well,
I really did this many, many times in my life:

"I walk until I reach the morning
Sparkling on an old horizon"

Everything here is well placed and well executed.Flawless, just flawless. And Daniel“s voice shines even in restrained fashion.
