Description
Got an email from jiguma. Talked with Rich. My drummer Burke couldn't resist ...

And before anybody gives me a hard time, Brian Wilson didn't write this, it's an old traditional Caribbean folk song and public domain.

Personnel (should have added this originally, sorry guys :)

jiguma (Neil Porter) — bass & vocals
Richard Schletty — vocals
Burke Kelly — drums & vocals
snowdragon (Craig Bakay) — 6- & 12-string guitars (Martin D12-20, Fender La Brea), keyboards (Oxygen-8), & vocals

One of my fav
old traditional Caribbean folk songs in the public domain snow! And really good to see you back here. You mixed this up nicely - sounds like you had quite a few tracks to play with.

A real festival song if ever there was one.

Neil

indeed
and not the least of which were an excellent bottom end and harmony vocals from somewhere in Oz. Thanks for coming up with the entire concept of the Festival man.

I enjoyed this
I like the jingle jangle feeling feeling you got going on this. The singing is really nice, plus it maintains I nice snowdragon feel to this. Love how it brings back the feeling of the Beach Boys as well. My heart yearns to hear more Beach Boys type tunes and I am getting em.

Way to go and so nice to ear a new post from you. Really hope you are doing fine! Hope you have a terrific week as well !

Thanks for posting and again it is a real delight to hear from you again !

thanks man. It means a lot to get a nod from you my friend.

I gotta tell you again, that video of When Johnny Comes Marching Home literally blew me away.

guess you already know I fav'd it on YouTube as well.

There had to be a dozen "how the hell did he do that?" moments in it and the harmonics stuff was a real highlight for me.

It's really great....
...hearing your voice again, Craig...

Nice harmony singing... Great bass underpinning, really holds it together...

Got 12-string?

Ed
snowdragon said 3059 days ago (February 9th, 2009)
Thanks Ed
the bass is obviously Neil. Took him like an hour to reply with the perfect bottom end plus a harmony vocal after I sent him a prototype.

And yes, it's the old Martin D12-20. Leave it to an old folky like you to pick that out lol.

Dunno if you've seen Martin Scorcese's Shine A Light but Keith Richards is using one on As Tears Go By

Worst or best trip?

Suddenly I'm 56 again! A song that makes one feel good, no matter what age. With bad trips this good, no one should ever hesitate to set sail!

so glad you could sit in too. It really is one of those cross-generational tunes. My kids liked it when they were little and it's a big fav when I play the seniors' home around here.

one my first too Jar
I think the first version of it I ever heard was the Kingston Trio's. Might have been Jimmy Rogers though.

Obviously, I owe a nod to Brian Wilson but I like to think this is how it might have sounded had the original Byrds done it. We did have MJ's answer to David Crosby on it (Schletts, kind of an in-joke). I guess that makes me McGuinn and jig Chris Hillman. Burke's kind of a cross between Michael and Gene Clark :)
