In a word...

Yes! This is incredibly tight and warm. Well mixed and well sung. One of your best vocal runs, Jack.

My only crit: I hear fake MIDI sax stabs during the verses which sound really synthetic compared to Ilya's real sax in the break. MAybe add a touch of reverb to the synth sax stabs in order to fix it.

well, if you had said...
that this reminded you of another of your songs, I would've begun to worry. LOL.

Ed, his is one of the few songs that I really planned out from the beginning, knowing more or less where I wanted to go... boy it was time consuming. My reply to DJ French adds a bit more to the story. Any way, I'm glad to read your comments. Next time you talk to Eric, Robert, or J.J. would you ask them if they want to record the song?

Dj... thanks man. You wrote, "kinda like if you could understand james brown." Funny you should bring him up. The 4-note guitar lead in to each chord is a James Brown signature, as is the chord progression - E9, A7, B7 (Papa's Got A Brand New Bag). The way I got into playing in soul bands back in the mid sixties was when the Hammond organ player in a band gave me a James Brown album and said, "If you learn the Maceo sax solo in "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag, then you can play tenor in our band." I learned it, and over the next five years played in 3 different soul bands that featured James Brown songs. So, as I write in the song description about this song... "My roots."

I was just thinking hmmmm that opening would make a great sample for a hiphop song and was hovering over the message you button to see if I could sample the opening part for a hiphop song and decided to stop myself and just listen and enjoy . It is very much so in the James brown Tipping the hat category and hell might as well ask ...do you mind if I sample the beganing of your song in a hiphop beat :) I think I could get a cool beat with it ! I love James Brown and Papa Dont take no mess is one of my all time favorite songs . I knew his spirit was present here ;) Hahaha im such a song molester !
