Had this idea around the early 90s .. and it's been on my to do list ever since ..
and this is my first attempt at recording some of the ideas for posterity. :o)
I have a concept and lyrics sketch (that I've added now).. so I might return to this with more vocals .. and bass. This was just a stab at the bed, see where that led and to get early feedback.
For those with a good ear, the vocal melody is in there (played with a more digital sounding synth).
The coverart is a pic of an underwater sculpture by Jason Taylor.
Here's how it looks in GBv3 (just the vocal track cut off):

Of course, you can't see the plug-ins, track-automations or panning settings at
this size of pic ..but just the tracks/instruments. From top to bottom they are:
"Circuit dialog 1" (more digital. GB soft instrument) Panned L -8
"Circuit dialog 2" (more analog. GB soft instrument) Panned R +8
"Grand piano" (GB soft instrument) Panned C
"Orchestra Steinway" piano (GB soft instrument from JP4) Panned C
"Orchestra Wedding Organ" (GB soft instrument from JP4) Panned L -36
"Orchestra Wedding Organ" (GB soft instrument from JP4) Panned R +36
"Xtra Violin Sect 1 Legato" (GB soft instrument from JP4) Panned C (but Tremolo effect used to pan slowly)
"Kits" Drums on demand drumloops 1
"Kits" Drums on demand drumloops 2
"Kits" Drums on demand drumloops 3
"Kits" Drums on demand drumloops 4
"Kits" Drums on demand drumloops 5
"Kits" Drums on demand drumloops 6
"Booms" 1 Reverse guitar FX loop Panned L -9
"Booms" 2 Reverse guitar FX loop Panned R +9
"Booms" 3 Reverse guitar FX loop Panned L -18 (pitch shifted to follow song)
"Booms" 4 Reverse guitar FX loop Panned R +18 (pitch shifted to follow song)
"No effects" Real Acoustic guitar Panned C (Ozone 3 used on the locally)
"No effects" Real Finger click percussion
Master track has Ozone 3 on it... a tweaked version of the preset "CD master with Exciter and Widening".
It's a simple song going (basically) D, G, Cadd9, A.
Em, G, A.
Feedback, suggestions, collaborators welcome- just send me a note with your e-mail.
Enjoy,
/Alan

Lyrics
Thoughts wander into my open mindfield,
Only to get blown away.
Step by step and unaware,
Of the under-lying danger.
It's easier to be naive,
And say there's nothing you can't tread apon,
That can't get wiped like shit off your shoes.
Look over your shoulder- they're still there.
I hope that they'll be the next one.
But some will make it through.
Was there a time when this field was empty,
Or the thoughts were simply unaware.
Is it unfair treating everyone the same?
Or is it true equality?
Even as I speak- another thought dies,
But some will make it through.
As you get older, the field gets bigger,
But there's more perils within.
Are they better to walk a straight line?
Or to dance without a care?
It's a path best taken alone,
Who plants these mines, is it me?
Is it best to avoid- or am I scared to-
Take a step through one?
Feelings were the first to go- shattered into many bits,
So I lie (here) restless,
Sweeping not sleeping.
