Description
The year 1977, a crazy group of Puerto Ricans musicians, me, and my car. A 1969 Chevy Impala Custom. I put a lot of miles on that eight track player. We listened to the sounds of Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, War, Santana, Malo as we cruised the boulevards. This track is a mix of the styles of our favorite bands. Start up your low rider, roll down your windows, and crank you the volume.
By the way, I'm in the white shirt playing the flute (Trombone, Sax, & Trumpet) that was 90lbs. ago!

Enjoy

that midi....
on the guitar with the pitch bends gives this maybe a 8 track vibe you didn't expect... ...that sound on old 8 tracks where you are listening and it almost sounds like it's about to eat the tape!

Good song. Good vibes. It has a nice ambience to it. I dig it.

I am from LA, Cali., the birth place of the lowrider. This song would have definately been an excelent low rider song in the 70's. Now a days the lowrider(youth)are mostly gang bangers and only listen to hard banging bebop rap shmap crap blairing to 9's. I love this being a child of the 60's I could have cruised to this and had a wonderful ride. Kind of Sanatana-ish, and we all love Santana. Thanks for sharing. Putting it on my list.

LA
I grew up in La Puente, 23 miles east of downtown. We use to cruise Whittier Blvd. & Sunset Blvd., at times we would drive to the Valley and cruise Van Nuys. No gangs, no racing, just a lot of music and flirting. (Gas was .49 cents per gallon)

Cruisin'
Guitars and big american cars go so well together....

Very enjoyable guitar playing. Sometimes the attack on the guitar is a bit strange. Because it's a midi guitar?

MIDI
Midi
At times it is difficult to get a clean attack being the frets are switches not strings. That makes the attack a bit slow, causing that softer feel. Depending on the song I'll clean up the playing in SONAR, but this song is just for fun. I have a beautiful guitar I made from a kit, I use often for rhythm guitar and clean solos. The bass is triggered at times using the MIDI guitar, 80% of the time I use my 1965 Fender Bronco . . .

Loved your Phrase "Guitars and big american cars"

A step back in time
A roll through the light
A smile so sublime
A kiss in the night

That was wonderful. Thanks.

Soft & Sweet
Thanks for admiring the feel, this song is a tune I put together in the summer of 08. I never did much with it so I pulled out the MIDI guitar this weekend and added some lead guitar, nothing polished. That time in my life was 32 years ago! I miss that old car!

Definitely SoCal crusin' music
and I'm happily along for the ride. The amazing thing is I'm convinced I hear little bits of Chicago, War, Santana, Malo, EWF, etc in there so you've done an excellent job of paying tribute to those bands of your youth (and mine ;-)
Thanks, Steve, and cheers.

Big Car
Convertible too, try that in Canada during the winter!
he, he, he . . . I put it together with a mix of those groups. The horns T.O.P. & Chicago, the percussion WAR and Malo, the guitar Santana. I am working on another similar tune called "On the Boulevard" much more refined. 69 Chevy was just for fun . . .

Thanks for your comments, stay warm!

Nice groove
Nice, mellow groove. I guess I'm just not a fan of the artificial-ness of the MIDI guitar. Personal preference I guess. Be interested to hear this played on a real guitar with real inflection. I like the song and the grove just not the MIDI guitar. Sorry.

MIDI Guitar
That slow attack of the midi guitar is a dead give away. Your dealing with switches, not string. Generally I play guitar, but this project is just for fun. I have another piece I wrote http://www.macjams.com/song/49702 it is a combination of Guitar, Midi Guitar, and syn. Take a listen and see if you can tell which is which. I look forward to your future comments, I like hearing comments that point out problems and arrangement and mix issues.

MIDI Guitar
At first it is different, but you get use to it. Advantages? you can slow down the tempo while playing, and easily correct mistakes. I had studio where I could use mics, mixers, and big amps, and real guitar. But my daughter moved back home and the rest is obvious.

Thanks for the comments
I hope you keep checking in . . .

I'm going to remember this next time i'm in Cali
Definitely very smooth. I have to admit, ive never come across midi guitar before, it does give it a peculiarly blunt attack/decay sound, I quite like it though, as a technique to get right on a regular guitar its quite hard. I think some regular guitar blended in might sound good.

lol, listening to this, i brain cant help but add some Barry White type deep vocals. Now that would be smooth!

Barry White, George Benson, & Santana
Those three are the number one artist my music is compared too.
Midi guitar, only the overdrive Santanish sounding guitar is MIDI, and you are right the attacks and releases are different from a standard guitar. Usually I clean up that problem in SONAR, however this track was just for fun! You are right more regular guitar could be added. Thanks for the visit . . .
