Swimmer & the Siren / DJShadowKat Remix (MJRF)

Description
Here is my humble contribution to the MJ Reunion Festival. When I came to the site last April, I posted this song - and many of you commented that the vocals were too submerged in the mix and hard to hear. A sound Engineer that goes by "DJ shadowKat" heard the song and offered to remix it. Liking the mood and lyrics, he stripped the song back a little. In his words: "I think my mix speaks for itself as does the song. I did not do anything as far as adding things to this song, all I did was remix it to make it brighter, with one exception... I moved the guitar tracks further into the left & the right sound fields to give them the strength I felt they should have." Hopefully you will find it an improvement on the original. Thanks for listening - and for your support throughout my first 10 months on MacJams.

Lyrics
SWIMMER AND THE SIREN (By Luna Trick)

In a wine red sea
You can swim to me
I’ll love you, love you
For all the miles you see
You can meet me here
When your mind is clear
I’ll hold you, hold you
I’m your anemone

Careful now, the darkening of the day
The shore is far, you have to try to swim away

I know it’s cold
I can see you’re bold
I’ll move you, move you
In currents that hold
A love that’s deep
The ocean will keep
The next time, next time
You call to me in sleep

Careful now, the darkening of the day
The shore is far, you have to try to swim away

You’ll hear my song
Before very long
We’ll meet here, meet here
In all the ocean’s throng
Soon you’ll believe
You won’t have to leave
I’ll teach you, teach you
You won’t need to breathe

I can feel your fingers pulling me down
I can feel your fingers pulling me down

In a wine red sea
You can swim to me
I’ll love you, love you
For all the miles you see
You can meet me here
When your mind is clear
I’ll hold you, hold you
I’m your anemone

Cool Char
You can find ShadowKat on iComps, where he does lots of interesting remixes of people's stuff. Maybe I can tempt him over here!

Great mix my friend
The song nicely fills the ol' phones from side to side. Like the bass work and the vocals, particularly when you do the doubling and harmony. Well crafted tune!

Peace,
Doug

Your voice sounds great here
I haven't heard the original but I love this. Very nice harmony and I like where the guitars ended up. I would have liked a less abrupt ending, mostly because while it lasted, it was a pleasurable listen.

It's one of my first posts if you're interested in comparing. My mix was a lot noisier. I'm not one for fade out endings - thus the abrupt one here!

Swimmer
Never heard the original, but this was really nice. Still trying to learn the language of jazz, but in this jazz was used only as a spice, (but correct me if I'm wrong). I did really enjoy this Daniel. Thanks for sharing. Terry

I suppose you are right
In a painterly kind of way. I use a lot of jazz idioms in my work - but would never offer myself as a Jazz player!

Hire
I love Char's comment - hire that guy! Yes, indeed. This sounds great. YOur vocal sounds really good here, and is nicely placed in the music. Lovely singing, too, and some really nice lines in those lyrics. Glad you found that person to help with the mix. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Love it!
Daniel,
This is beautifully mixed. Didn't hear the original, but I can hear your words here and that is paramount to me... Love the vocal harmony, too: just a little bit goes a long way. Rhythm track and bass ... very cool... and those spread out guitars let your voice come through the middle of the orchestration with clarity. ... Nit: ending is awfully abrupt... Otherwise, wow. You are very much in control.
Peace.
Paul
