Space Explorations 1.0

Description
This is a jam recorded at the home of Tamadrumbum (Paul), on 2-14-09.

The song includes Anthony Dominguez, not currently a member, and myself. Anthony made up the song on Bass on the spot, to which I added guitar and Paul played drums.

I have been experiementing with echo and reverb lately and therefore the song is called Space Explorations. We had a couple other gems that nite, that's why this song is labeled version 1.0. I'll be posting a couple more after this.

Instruments:
Paul Marks: Tama Drum Set (shiny white colored), Fan Brushes
Anthony Dominguez: Fender Jazz Bass (red colored), Peavey Microbass Amp. Plucked with moderately calloused fingers
Brian Bondietti: Fender Stratocaster (rose colored), Peavey Classic 30 Amp, Ibanez 1.0 mm Paul Gilbert model guitar pick.

Recorded with a Zoom H2 Handy Recorder

The only mastering done to the track was to pan one channel hard left to bring out the bass a bit more.....

Yeah. I pretty much quit recording lately, because the H2 is so awesome. Nothing like live recording.
You should get one.

Elevator_Funk said 284 days ago (February 15th, 2009)
Thanks Feter
The Ibanez is actually a pick. I like to joke about it because the guitar shop I ordered them from had to actually make a big deal about them with the Ibanez rep when I ordered them, the picks actually had to be shipped from Japan for me, took 6 months.

no mind altering substances here...
but plenty of caffiene, high-fructose corn syrup, trans-fats and processed food preservatives in my case at least.

Really nice playing - thoghtful and rich
you guys have a good feel for each other - and your guitar sounds really sweet here. Excellent H2 recording. What mode did you use? 2 channel 120 degrees? - 90 degrees? - surround 2 or 4? 16 or 24 bit?
Whatever you did - you got a really excellent recording. I'm currently downloading a recording from a show last night from my H2. I'm sold.

Hi Bud
thanks for listening. It was recorded on 44.1 khz wav, 16 bit. 4 channels. The amps were aimed hard left and right of the front channel 90º channel. The 120º channel was aimed at the drumset. Since I lost the parts of the recorder that attach it to the mic stand the h2 was set in the middle of the room on the floor. The floor was carpeted. The impedance was set on low as the room was smaller and the kick drum was about 3 feet from the mic.

I think if the mic was in the air it would have been overpowered by all the cymbals anyways so the floor must have been a good spot for the mic. The amps could aim directly at it that way and make up for the loudness of the drums.

I've switched to the lower resolution .wav file lately because jams usually last about 3 hours for me and the 4 gig card records about that amount. the hi res always ran out of room before I finish jamming.

Hope that's enough info. I remember checking out one of your jams before I bought the H2 and being impressed. That's one of the reasons I bought one. Zoom should pay us for our advertising!

well...
first of all we want a million dollars up front, and we don't want a singer, 'cuz they'd steal our thunder. : D

Space rock
at its best.
And I agree, a singer would not add anything to this.He might as well subtract its power.

yes...
having other people to jam with is great. I should mention that the two musicians I jammed with are now on macjams and they deserve a listen whenver they get some stuff up on their profiles.

This sounds really, really good...
And yeah, it takes me back to my VERY long ago band-jamming-in-barns-and-garages days... This is a really good mix, and if it's just the H2, then I'm really impressed. The drums sound good, the bass has depth and tone, and the guitar is both round and sharp... Over headphones, it has terrific space, great separation...

Wish we'd had this back in the day...

I'm downloading this... I really like this kind of playing...

the h2 does a good job separating the sounds. It also makes you look for opportunities to jam w/good musicians so you can take advantage of it.

introspective
great mix - you can clearly hear each instrument

lots of fun - kind of introspective - i'm just sitting on the couch sipping beer and digging it - you're making me nostalgic for the old days of jamming in the basement

thanks
