Description

This is another Buddha Machine experiment. Sorry if it's getting tedious by now - but I'm actually doing a whole album of pieces built around the box for the RPM Challenge. http://www.rpmchallenge.com/component/option,com_comprofiler/Itemid,296/

What you are hearing is a single track, uncut improvisation played on a Sequential Circuits Pro One synthesizer (think old and analog) using the Buddha Machine as both sound source and sequence trigger. In addition to the Buddha loops you are also hearing the Pro One's two oscillators playing a small bass sequence (advanced by the peaks in the loops) while I'm tweaking everything. This is probably best appreciated with speakers at a low to moderate volume - it tends to do nicer things in a room than in phones.
As with any of these things - this is open for reuse.

Kevin - this is very very cool! I'm of course not the right person for additions, but as i look at the people who've chimed in so far, it's easy to see how you'll get some awesome takers. I'm imagining you and Ridd in particular on this, and I'm in heaven! This Buddha Machine thingee is really interesting to me, and i can't wait to see how this experiment develops. Do you know why it's called "Buddha"? Great work as usual my Bud!

what becomes of this as well. Daniel's work on Tundra was amazing and anything Ridd touches turns to gold. Why Buddha Machine? Here's a little info on the creators - you can learn more on the website I posted above in response to ReverendAG.

Founded in 1999 by Christiaan Virant and Zhang Jian, two active members of the Beijing music scene, FM3 are considered pioneers of electronic music in China.

Known for dedicating prime space for “live” aspects within their work, FM3 produces mysterious, meditative and minimalist soundscapes, while subtly adding elements of Chinese folk tradition into a universe abundant in micro-sounds and synthetic glitches.

a solid sense of grounding as well. I like the phrasing that you've achieved as the filters do their work. I can easily get the feeling of being on the moon - the abyss above, a foreign solid world below. Things moving with no sense of hurry.

...channeling Paul Reinholt! (and I see your comments on his things as well). You guys are exploring really interesting territory with your oscillators and such. THIS is outta this world...Only suggestion is a small one: move the center around to left and right a bit now and again. ... Oh, I love the bass pedal tone...Very solid and just drives into my bones! Sounds like the soundtrack in the beginning of 'Donnie Darko'. Evocative and calming. Perfect soundtrack for 'abstract' videos or time lapse footage, provoking involvement beyond casual thought.

You could of course put any other instrument on top of this and you're off to a good start, but it stands nicely on its own - wonderful 'experiment'!
