Defining Moments
I felt the tension in your soundtrack, my favorite part is the brass I could feel the french horns, trumpets, & tubas. The track sounds over compress, but that may be the bitrate of the MP3. I liked it, and will be coming back!

Thanks, scaustrita!
I appreciate the listen and the comments! Glad you liked the brass section; I wasn't sure if they would overpower the piece or not but it seems to be received well among listeners. I'm not a real expert on compression or mixing yet; what I've learned I've picked up from others in this community, so it's possible it is over compressed!

Defining Moment
Hi Rick - this is terrific! as scaustrita said, there's lots of good tension building, letting go, re-building - very effectively. I like your choice of instruments, you've done a good job of not overcrowding (big problem for me often), and the whole song just works very well! Congratulations!

Soundscape
You have a wonderful sonic picture here...very atmospheric, dramatic. The brass chorale at the end is a very nice touch.

Very grateful...
Composerclark, thank you so much for stopping by. I'm pleased you enjoyed the brass section. Wasn't sure that was going to work, but it seemed to lead the piece into resolution.

Thank you, Skean!
See my comments to Mr. Mueller below...I'm glad the image fits. I was definitely inspired by the concept of flight, free fall, and the rush that accompanies the risk of letting go!

Some Bond moments. Very nice textures, movement, ebbs and flows. Like surging tides. Love the horn sounds at the end and orchestral percussion. Use any plugins/extra packs? All GB sounds? Nice.

As a skydiving friend of mine always says, "If you really want to fly, get out of the plane!"

Tobin!
Wow! So honored to have you drop by and comment! Thank you! Everything you hear is Jam Pack 4 (Symphony) software instruments with 1 exception: after trying to get just the right feel for the orchestral percussion without success, I stumbled across a percussion loop from "Desire B". After some minor alteration, effects and penciling, I had what I wanted. So I hope I didn't "cheat"...but that percussion section fit beautifully. Ironic you mention skydiving; it's actually what I had in mind as this piece developed. My brother just completed his first jump, and I was inspired to compose this...from the ground.

And one more
Oops...I think I used some World Music instruments in there, too, so there are a few additional voices apart from the Symphony pack.

Long time no hear!
Nice cinematic tension building here. It evokes scenes of hang gliders swooping down to the ocean shore, trying to miss the boulders on the way down. How many tracks did this take?

It has been awhile!
Thank you so much for stopping by! It has been awhile indeed. Love your description! I broke this piece down into 24 tracks. Some of them were very small (the short timpani drum section is two tracks, for example).

Good stuff
Great to see you back with something, Rick! I was just wondering if you would have a moment to tickle us with something new from you. I loved your initial build, it really kept my interest. The middle part seemed a little turbulent and ambivalent, wasn't sure where it was going, but perhaps that was your intent... and the final cadence with horns and chorus was really nicely done. Gripping emotional music!

Hey drakonis!
Thanks for stopping in and listening! This is definitely an emotive piece. I'm pleasantly surprised by the number of references to the brass in this one...that might be a direction to explore in a new piece. Great to hear from you!

Wind rush!
Nice buildup Rick, very creative arrangement. Loved the contained buildup - dramatic, smooth and uplifting.
Great to hear new work from you again. Welcome back.
Best,
Charlie

moments
this is an extremely powerful composition! full of great emotion and movement. i loved the intake of breath that starts the piece out. excellent use of the choirs to give the piece an ethereal feel. then those awesome strings grounding things out and creating tension. i think your sound choices throughout the entire piece are perfect. there is so much space to this - you are not afraid of silence, which is wonderful. I love the ending. This is just a really stellar composition and great sounds from Garageband. Well done!

Great build!
Wow. This is great.

I really loved the build in the beginning. Ok, I can't get over how awesome it is. The strings that slowly come in from the background, along with the rising percussion... I could just listen to this over and over.

Very effective build throughout
The beat keeps you moving through those areas of tension no matter how dire things feel like they're getting. The end release is at first ominous, and then I think of the consequences of taking 'the leap', so it leaves for a lot of mystery as to what happened next.

Great writing and orchestration. Powerfully evocative.

Keep well,
Doug
