Description
Ambient. Soft synths. Simple. Trying to work in those unruly EXSP24 vox synths.

Safe Harbor -- a story of separation from place, the anxiety of imminent departure, wandering through nervous landscapes, an illusory resolve, struggling to regain hope, and finding it in the most unlikely of places.

ambi-something
Only negative thing is that the constantly flanging synths seemed a little too regular through the whole piece... I would have wanted a different timbre synth to come in at times as a replacement, they were very insistent :-) Other than that, I really liked the chord washes, and the choice of ominous feeling until the end when the chords resolve, and the heartbeat was cool. Nice stuff.

Thanks Drakonis.
Your honest appraisals are always refreshing. Thanks for your comment. I guess I'll just have to cite "artistic differences" concerning the insistence of the bass synth. That was my intention.

Hi Ex......
I enjoyed your mix as it was. The picture you paint with your description fits very nicely with the journey that the music takes you on.

Take care.

Hi Paul.
This was a simple exercise compared to your very detailed ambient pieces, but that suits my simple mind. Thanks very much for taking the time to listen and comment.

I'm huge fan of ambient tunes, you've done a really great painting with all the sounds you come up with here… As, Holly & Paul says a journey I love that as you can imagine your on picture(s) in you mind.
GREAT WORK.

nice track
some really interesting stuff going on here. love those big chord-ey pads that come in after the first section. would love to hear David Sylvian singing over the top of this.

Yes, a vocalist would be interesting, in general, Sylvian or not. I'll have to give that some thought. Thanks again.

Great meditative ambience
Sweet sounds that work nicely together. I even think I recognized that heart-beat pulse :-) For a song of almost 8 minutes I might have expected a slightly more resolved ending alternatively a longer fade, but that is my only nit. Very nice! Thanks for the download, an instant fav, as usual from you!

incredible soundscape you've built here. your sound choices are excellent and help to really create the mood. there are lots of different sonic textures here, which is great. the diversity kept me engaged, as the background wind-sounds swept me along. very cool stuff. a wonderful adventure in sound. thank you.

Hi dava.
Yeah, I miss tons of stuff. The production rate here seems to have accelerated recently. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it. I have always liked the vox synths, in spite of the fact that I find it difficult to make them sound good.

Char said 228 days ago (April 8th, 2009)
Hello, Ex.
I would not change a thing. I see a woman who has been left to find her own way. Like a character from Charles Dickens, she meets people, some good, some bad. Her favorite place to go when there is too much to handle is the sea shore. She stays for hours and is lost in the watching of the waves beating on the sand. She doesn't mind the wind and the salt sea spray that leaves her raw and trembling because she feels that burning and knows she is alive and can withstand anything. I love what you do. You make me think. Thank you.

A wonderfully descriptive alternative.
You're awfully good at this, Char. Write more lyrics! That's close to what I had in mind. I wanted to describe the dissolution of a settlement in the north lands circa 1000 AD, displaced and forced to migrate through uncharted territory, filled with dread and uncertainty, without the comforts of home for the first time, then finding a new settlement -- a temporary respite -- but just an illusion, deeper disappointment and longing, then when hope is nearly abandoned, eureka (at 6:20 the clouds break slowly). This could have obvious parallels to the breakup of a long relationship, something along the lines you describe. Thanks for your kind comments.
