Description
There are three reasons for putting two songs for Macjams today!
Firstly the 24th February is Shrove (or Fat) Tuesday in Britain and Carnival in many parts of the world so I wanted to sing a song about the day.
Secondly my wife said she’d like to hear the traditional English song ‘The Twenty-fourth of February’.
The third reason is that it’s my brother’s birthday today so I thought I’d do something extra for the occasion. I wonder if he’ll drop by for a listen...
The Twenty-fourth of February’, from my album, ‘Harbour of Days’ is a typical tale of victory against the odds and took place in 1669. It’s printed in a book of sea songs published in 1920 by Master Mariner W B Whall. My copy was originally a gift, and the inscription inside says:
“To Harry with best wishes on his birthday from Leonard. From a sailor to a sailor.”
