why i have done the 9/11 opera:
in spring 2008 i listened to a special feature on german radio about modern media.
the people who made this had a focus on the questions:
how far can media go?
what can they show and what not?
what is allowed?
what´s not?
they took an example we all remember:
9/11...
from these days...
how often did we see the towers fell?
how often did we see how the planes crashed into the wtc?
how often did we see these unbelievable pictures of white dust covering the streets of manhattan?
how often did we see people jumping into death?
did anybody count?
...until today?
once, as some of these pictures appeared on tv again (during a commercial break - primetime between a "for the whole family"- movie), my kids told me that they have seen that a few times before...
and they thought it´s from an action-film...
this time these pictures were used for selling a scientific magazine...
...to put the wheel of history into reverse:
what happened exactly?
is there really a conspiracy?
against whom?
us?
did the bush administration use the attacks to start the war against iraq?
did somebody else used the attacks to earn money?
a lot of people earned a lot of money...
sad but true...
and they still do...
it´s an easy thing:
put sex and crime and death onto the cover of a magazine and the people will buy it!
i always wanted to do a song for the ones who died...
about the shock-wave that hurts all of us...
...including me.
i searched for "material" about 9/11.
i found conspiracys.
i found liars.
i found questions.
i found out how to start a war.
i found out what media has made of it.
i found out that most of the media-makers
DON´T CARE about the people who lost their lifes...
the first question of a media-man on every "event" is:
"how can we use this?"
why i have done the 9/11-opera?
to show that we are surrounded by a media which can change our meanings in every way it wants...
to show that the owners of all the tv-stations
wouldn´t help you when you lie there bleeding -
they will film it - and then sell it.
who can verify that the media tells us the truth?
not only on 9/11...
what is truth?
do you believe in santa claus?
can you attest the opposite?
and, in context of 9/11 -
some started a war - and they´re still at war...
against terrorism and mass-destruction guns which has never been found...
and, in context of 9/11 -
some want to circumsize our freedom...
we are all suspicious of being terrorists...
have you seen the cameras on the streets?
all funny webcams?
do you know your creditcard-number?
there are some people who know what you have bought at the video-shop last year...
who could use all the datastreams in the internet?
do you know that some people know that you´re reading this?
i don´t want to put oil in the burning fires of all these conspiracy-therozies...
i think it´s stupid and senseless...
but in fact the attacks on the 9/11 were very useful for some people to legitimate their ideas of more control...
and i think you and i know who wants to get more control...
this is a very complicated world...
do we know anything at all?
i never wanted to hurt anybodys feelings...
