Description
Found this hanging around, I liked the song itself and was going to re record it but although this angry recording is rough and ready I didn't think I'd be able to recapture the feel of it. So instead I've tried to remix it. I wrote it one day in 2007 while I was house sitting for my daughter. It started off it's life as -Soft Judges - which was inspired by a newspaper heading of the same name. It's about the ridiculus sentences handed down to criminals who commit violent crimes time and time again and the fools who go along with it.

Lyrics
Mad Dogs [2007]

Mad dogs holding high court positions.
It's a game that they play,
Old fools making legal decisions,
As they muddle their way -
Gonna tell the world maybe put it on u tube
You can get a caution for rape.

Fat cats lick the cream from the system,
They don't give it a thought,
You can hear as they purr if you listen,
They don't ever get caught,
Gonna sit in judgement, gonna work a tea break,
Gonna make a loophole for sure.....

Mad Dogs -
Make all of the answers and backward advances,
Mad Dogs -can tell.
Mad Dogs -have all of the answers but don't take no chances,
Mad dogs -can smell.

Mad dogs with their feeble solutions,
You hear them grumble and groan,
They gamble with real life polution,
Until it's time to go home-
Gonna sit in judgement, gonna work a tea break,
Gonna make a loophole for sure.....

Mad Dogs -
Make all of the answers and backward advances,
Mad Dogs -can tell.
Mad Dogs -have all of the answers but don't take no chances,
Mad dogs -can smell.

Mad Dogs & Englishmen
I love the retro feel, especially the backing vocals. Mad Dogs & Englishmen inspired me, I was a huge Leon Russell fan. Altho this song is nothing like MD&E, it reminded me. Very cool late 60s feel.

And thanks for making me smile. Love your music.

Mad Dogs and Welshmen
Yes, I can hear your anger and you were completely correct in not re-recording this wonderful song. Love it all but especially the superb beatlesque harmonies that surprise as they enter and the grumble and groan noises. Just listened to this three times through and it is now totally ingrained and never to be forgotten. Superb. Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers

Just fine as it is
The texture of your vocals is perfect for this statement. sounds like you are a little P.O.ed at the system as well. Great track guy.
Be well, Russ

You know what...
I dig the retro feel too. Reminds me a lot of Nilsson, and I agree with Tobin, Leon Russell. Fantastic vocals. Sounds like an old 45.

Great tune my friend.

Thank you Dave
I quite like the 45 rpm description but someone sait to me the other day one of my recordings sounded like a Victrola ! cheek -

I'm famous for my vintage sounds.

I'm always pleased when someone says they like my vocals because I became a singer by accident and have a very limited range indeed. When I record something I always crank the volume up in the cans and that makes me sing as though i'm with a band.

Rough and ready?
Methinks the gentleman doth protest too loudly :-)

The harmonies and the slide give me a George Harrison feel but you can sing.

I loved the lyrics and fully concur.

Cheers

Dick

very beatlesesque
Hope that is a compliment. This is reminds me of lady madonna, I am the walrus, and one more like old brown shoe all combined, but more modern as well. I bet you didn't even intend that at all, but the influences must be there somewhere. Very cool songwriting and use of sounds. Wow. Thanks.

Lose something
fwiw: I hear ya. Happened to me a million times. People are obsessed with getting a clear recording, but in actuality the soul of the music is what counts, and the recording process can actually harm that by stifling the part of you that just wants to express. But over time you do get better at capturing that soul better, more clearly, which isn't bad at all. I wouldn't trade one for the other though. I'm GLAD you realize that and gave us the REAL version!!!! And it's clear you have learned a few things over the years. The production on this isn't bad at all to my ears. Definitely not worth messing up the song by attempting to improve it. My two cents!!!

This thing should be a hit record! at least in my humble opinion. It's got all the right pieces in all the right places.
Just a nice thing all the way through. Great job!

Tim, you are very kind
thank you, I seem to remember that this song wrote itself once I'd set the basics, I wasn't sure if the word Mad would sustain for a bar successfully, especially with my lack of vocal skills, but it seemed to work ok.

Break open the vinyl
The keys, are smooth as silk through the patina of your tape hiss. The vocals, harmonies, are peerless. What a great tune. and that good ol' rock bass. I'm gonna have to break out some Mott the Hoople now. That repeated "mad dogs" harmony bears repeated praise.
