Description
Veniae = To Be Forgiven

This is something completely new for me. I'm experimenting, moving outside of my comfort zone, exploring aspects of Garageband (and composing) that I haven't used much thus far. I've been listening to a lot of Constance Demby, Sri Chimnoy, and Steven Halpern lately and wanted to try my hand at a sort of meditational-healing sort of piece.

I've done some odd stuff with timing - moving back and forth between 7/8 and 6/8 with a few other things thrown in here and there.

This may take a few listens to really sink in, but I'm hoping in the end it will offer some comfort and a few moments of peace. Thanks for listening.

And thanks for creating such a wonderfully supportive and encouraging environment that makes these experiments possible.

The song art is another of the incredible Soul Cards by Deborah Koff-Chapin. Her website is here: http://www.touchdrawing.com/

And I've been listening to
a lot of this wonderful artist in Northern CA... Some of you might know of her... Kassia is I think how she goes. Excellent artist with lots of variety and a quick wit to match. Fun in the chat room, even better via email... If you get a chance catch her next works... Really a treat. Recommended to all!

Delightful...
Love the droney sweeps... and that delicious high pedal point you get in the upper piano voice....

Nice subtle switches in tempo... lovely themic alterations in different voices... you are flying in your element here Shay... oh to soar in that ether...

Marvelous...

I love your song comments almost as much as I love your music. Thank you. I'm glad the tempo changes worked for you - it took me a few listens for them to fall into place in my head, but once they did I felt like they really added an interesting flow to the piece. Thank you for your listen and your kind words.

shay - as you know, i've been excited about this departure from your comfort zone, and am so glad you went for it! the time sig changes (as you also know) have grown on me, and i really love the middle bit where the piano and flute come in, giving a feeling for what the title of the song expresses. you've done a terrific job finding the right synth sounds and using them together and separately, to great effect. the music is so heartfelt, thoughtful, poignant - congratulations on this big step into new frontier!

this is lovely. the set up would have made Halpern happy! then comes the piano and flute, and there's a change of mood. the sustained chords thruout give this such a beautiful dreamy flavor. this feels as spacious as the cosmos on a good day. full of quiet majesty and lots of grace. nice, shay.

There would be no forgiving if there was no mistake. The piano part to me is very soothing. Well to be honest not to say that Im not the whole piece to me was very relaxing. I think its just what I needed thanks downloaded

picking the right sounds
This is one of your true talents, as mentioned by Magnatone above... I am pretty sure I've commented about it before. Your works always sound so natural, somehow you coax all the sounds into life. I rarely get a sense that any of it is sampled, a huge accomplishment.

Mea Culpa
Wonderfully soft gentle intro, the flute section is also great, with the unusual time signature keeping you guessing, but very harmonious and consonantal music. I have to admit that by the last 1/4 of the piece, the flanging synths were a little too repetitive, and I was thinking that if you simply reduced the flange effect a bit near the end (leaving everything else the same) it would sound a little better to me... that's my only critique, probably because I'm so relaxed now, nothing else matters :-)

i had the same thought about the flange...so i took some out of the middle of the song, but maybe not quite enough? i'll give it another listen. glad this relaxed you. that was it's intent. thanks for the kind words mr. dragon.

Beautiful
Soothing music.

Sometimes you need music which is in harmony with you; not something disruptive which forces you to listen. I was in harmony with this and it with me.

Just beautiful.

Quieter than your piano pieces. Calming, almost ambient musical tones. Always like to hear people venture in different musical directions, you show some real breadth here.

I'm all about ambient these days...and i'm dying to give a true ambient piece a try someday soon. i agree there are aspects of this that could be ambient, but my melodic tendencies prevailed for the most part. I really appreciate you stopping by for a listen and leaving such great thoughts. Thank you.

I was transported
to a green hill on a sunny day. I climbed the hill to the top and slowly turned completely around so I could see all of creation spread out below. I was warmed through out, from within and washed over by a music that was tender and caressing and gave me hope that I would find my place. This is what I experienced as I closed my eyes and listened. Extremely well done. My thanks.

Just got done setting up a new studio
and settled down to check in on MJ. This is the second track I've heard so far - first Bryn and Alanah's and now this. I really enjoyed your "departure" and loved being taken along. Beautifully modulated and played - you seem a natural at this sort of thing. Looking forward to hearing more.
BTW - your ambient mix came up on my iPod today and sailed me through an hour of work. I think you're on to something.

Hi Shay........
I think that this is one of my favourites from you. I love all your pieces but this one has something and it 'takes me away somewhere' whilst I'm listening.

I'll have to listen to it a few more hundred times before I can let you know what else there is about the ambience that you create and what I like about it.

Now where's that comfy chair and that huge soft pillow.........

Take care.

another master ambienteer (I stole that word from one of your song titles - hope it's ok!) i am thrilled that you came by for a listen and liked the piece! my absolutely favorite thing about this type of music is the stuff going on underneath - the stuff you don't hear until the 100th listen. i really tried to add some of that so hopefully as you drift away in your comfy chair, you'll be pleasantly surprised by something new each time. thank you so much for listening and leaving such kind words.

It seems
like when I see your name on the boards (music) that it is going to be a treat. This has a terrific ambient feel to it. Like the seagull in the pic, goes with the sky type sound etc. Nice enya feel in a way as for as the distant feel, which I really am a fan of. Especially when you kick in with the reverb piano. Enjoy the flute and how it really blends in with that feeling that you creating. Nice shimmering synth. You have great consistency in your compositions. Enjoy the echoe 3/4 of the way through, like how that feels like a wave coming in and out. Lots of things to say, very inspirational for me.

Way to go !

What a great achievement you have here, Kassia! Love it! Like Alannah I know not time signatures when I hear a song, but that this will work as meditative music to relax and think harmonious thoughts to is beyond doubt. Thank you so much for the download and for a new favorit in the ever growing list here at MJ!!

I think this musical style is a natural for you. A great direction for your music to go - maybe even with your collaborative work with Karen. This is great music to start the day while calmly and peacefully planning one's schedule, or better yet, to put the finishing touches on an evening - all I need is a glass of chardonnay and a few tea lights, and your music shall establish the perfect relaxed mood while reflecting on...just about anything! I especially like how you introduce the piano at right about 2 minutes - very skillfully done! Nice work - very well done - I look forward to hearing more of your meditative side!
