Description
This is an extended version of a song I posted Thursday. Some of you confirmed my feeling that it was too short, so I went back and added almost 2 mins and beefed up the end section - throwing in some guitars and a bit more vocal improv. I also cleaned up some rough edges and changed the lyric 'Sea Otters' to 'Sea Monsters' because I thought 'otters' was a little soft and 'monsters' is a more appropriate and surreal visual.

Original description:

Here's another experimental thing. A while back I found and loved particledots sad but absolutely beautiful open collab 'A.N.' http://www.macjams.com/song/48875. I know some other MJ artists have already done some amazing things with this, but I just had to get a piece of it too. He gave me his blessing and the files and this is the result.
The lyrics are based on a memory of almost drowning in the ocean when I was a kid. I remember being taken by a huge wave and rolling around underwater, where I thought I saw miniature whales watching me. I think maybe I was hallucinating from holding my breath so long or something? Weird huh? Anyway it's a vivid memory and I don't really know how truly bad it was, but it makes for a good subject to write about.
My vocal is effected with the GB autotuner, a little 8-bit crush, and some rotor vox tremelo to create an underwater kind of feeling. Also I added a deep constant boil using the KT Granulator and the pitch shifter on some misc background noise to get that rolling underwater sound as well.
All the music is particledots fine work, but I remixed it a little and added some additional percussion to create a bit of a build throughout.
Thanks for posting the original, particledots. I hope you like this.

Lyrics
I CAN'T HEAR WHAT YOU SAY
OVER THESE CRASHING WAVES
YOUR WISDOM HAS DROWNED IN THIS SEA

I ROLL UNDER WATER
WITH WHALES AND SEA MONSTERS
THEY WATCH AS I STRUGGLE TO BREATHE

THE WATER IS BOILING WITH AIR ALL AROUND ME
THE OCEAN IS FILLING MY LUNGS

THEN SUDDENLY IT'S CALM
THE FISHES HAVE ALL GONE
I FEAR THAT THE END HAS BEGUN

I'll have to give it another listen to confirm
but it sounds fabulous so far. Your voice survives nicely the various treatments you gave it and the beefing up sounds great. I'll spare you a coincidental tale of near drowning but say that your version held no terrors. Very nice.

this
version definitely sounds more complete. It sounds great when the guitars come in and the extended vocals give it a really large feel in the middle. Nice addition.

I loved the original a lot....
But more is better ! This is just marvelous work Ridd... pro quality... and better than most things on alt radio. I have a special affinity for this song as I write a lot about underwater imagery. Perhaps we were sea creatures in past lives...

the director's cut
cool for expanding the song. I had thought to myself that the original was short or I was just wanting it to be longer. I like what you did, nice finish!
