Description
I thought it was time for me to strip things down and do something acoustic again, so I sporadically wrote and recorded this last night while I was supposed to be working.
The lyrics are from the point of view of a been-around-the-block a few times type of guy who is no longer surprised or alarmed by anything that happens around him.
After this song was finished I really had to fight the urge to add more instrumentation to it and have it explode at the end, but I'm glad I resisted.

Lyrics
Have you ever seen the moon in the middle of the day?
Have you ever seen the sun shine when the sky is full of rain?
Have you ever felt the warmth on a cold November day?

Well I have
Yes I have

Have you ever heard the laugh
from a child of your own?
Have you ever held the hand
of a lover and a friend?
Have you ever talked to God
and heard him talking back?

Well I have
Yes I have

I have seen it all
I have been here before
This does not alarm me
Nothing surprises anymore

Have you ever started something
that you know you can't finish?
Have you ever had a feeling
there's something better than this?
Have you ever been rejected?
Have you ever been missed?

Well I have
Yes I have

Have you ever seen a murder?
Have you ever seen a ghost?
Have you ever been so far away?
Have you ever been so close?

Have you ever had to fight
or did you turn the other cheek?
Have you ever heard a scream at night?
Do you feel you're incomplete?

I have seen it all
I have been here before
This does not alarm me
Nothing surprises anymore

Hey!
Hey I've got an old post called "Nothing" up here. Copy cat lol

The guitars and the singers are phenomenal man. You can really write a tune. I know you don't want to do the "L.A. Thing", but the world may be missing out on someone like you.

You're quite a talent...for the 30th time.

GREAT lyrics-

Dave

Nothing
wow Ridd - i agree with previous comments that i'm glad you resisted the urge to add (from one who almost never can resist that urge!) doing it this way allows your terrific voice to shine through, blending so beautifully with the guitar. backing vocals very very cool also. i know i always say this ridd, but whenever i see that you've posted a new song, i already know i will love it, and once again you've proved me right. thanks for being such a wonderful musical presence on MJ!

mellow....
very 1960's flavor to it...Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young come to mind...

Very beautiful piece, Ridd!

just to damn good,I am realy amazed...more than amazed. Add me to the list of folks who are glad you left it as is,no additions. Your vocals and delivery are so there. That Taylor that sounds like it's a part of you rings. Fantastic as is.

acoustic
you always get a great sound out of your acoustic, especially the bass notes. whenever i record my acoustic i'm thinking "get that sound that rsorenson gets" lol. i like the fact that you did this while you were supposed to be working - whenever i do that I think of Tom Wingfield in A Glass Menagerie who is fired from the shoe factory for writing poems on a shoebox.

As always I like your backups - very cool. Keep going in the quiet direction por favor - I want to hear another hushed Sun Kil Moon/Great Lakes Swimmers type tune...those few you did a while back were great.

Having only
the guitar and you lets the quality be on open view. And you are top quality. Great song and performance.

Acoustic Zep feel
Nice playing, singing and writing Ridd. The recording is pretty perfect too - I'd resist adding anything to this.

Sweeeeet...
Nice acoustic tuneage Ridd.

Are you using an unusual tuning on that guitar? Really nice sound.

Intriguing lyrics. Beautiful singing. I've always dug your vox.

Good one man...

Be well!

Dust
I enjoyed the harmonies, the brooding sense, the world weary vocals, the acoustic Jimmy Page style. Something very understated hip, especially when the arrangement rolls out a little longer. Interesting how its not clear if this is a sad or wise or simply weary narrative; all in the ears of the hearer perhaps. It ends up being dust in the wind. Strange how compelling living is, even when it weighs and repeats and exhausts, how hard a true lack of surprise or bewilderment is to maintain. Every night I still find something new in my day past, something to consider or be eager about in my day to come. Maybe its just cuz my memory is going.

Nice track.
