&fsThis song was recorded live to tape. We have the basic bed tracks down, so when we get the intricacies worked out we will do final recording, input is welcome. This was done just because of some requests for us to get a live action video up on youtube (please feel free to go there and Rate/Comment/Subscribe, we would be thankful).

intricacies to work out
This is an awesome tune, great vocal and vocal delivery. It's not forced at all. I do think you have some things to work ou before your final recordingt, so maybe I'll address just those things and leave the words of well deserved praise to others. The guitar solo starts out really nice but at end it takes a wrong turn and sounds pretty off in terms of note choices. Sort of goes into a minor mode when the rest of the song is squarely in the major mode. The direct sound of guitar has that piezo sound that is okay, but I hope you mic the guitar when you do the final version, since it seems like you're missing a bit of the full natural sound of the guitar. The guitar is actually substantially way louder than it should be in this mix but I suppose that's to be excused in this live to tape/Garageband recording. But that's something to pay close attention to when trying to balance this out with such a subtle and sensitive voice. Boy, she's really a talent! Impressive!

Welcome to MJ
Always good to see new talent here - father/daughter collaboration is always especially interesting.

This is a really good song for starters, and as a demo, the recording is pretty good straight up. I particularly like the sound of the guitar, although maybe Jim's suggestion might help fill it out a little.

Kitty, you have a great voice, reminiscent of Liz Phair. But hey, she's not 14 - you have enormous potential if you want to pursue it. Nigel, I like that you're able to see Kitty's talent beyond her being your daughter - sometimes we fathers of girls can be a little overcome with pride in our daughter's talents, but I suspect you have seen the exceptional nature of Kitty's gift. She has the advantage of learning from seasoned musicians and paying some dues with dad's protective eye on things.

I'm looking forward to more from you all.

I listened to the song and it was great. I watched the youtube video, and I am simply floored. Your daughter is a natural, and she is fantastic. The songwriting is excellent. Although I can definitely hear lots of possibilities for a studio arrangement, if you added nothing at all, I don't think it would detract from the fact this is a wonderful piece of work. The production aspects appeal and support the tune. I would wait until the young lady fell in love and record this again. It's not that I doubt the vocal presentation but I'm certain she could amp up the honey and sunshine. Another way to get to the same thing-"Don't perform young lady." "Present." Good advice. I said something similar to a friend of mine way back in high school. I said "you must find Kenny Wayne Shepherd, make him fall in love with you, then brake his heart, then he will be even better"
Seriously though, as a Dad, I hope there is no love falling for quite some time (if ever:P ) but we will try and find another muse for her, because the advice is quite sound.

I don't know about Shep, Your daughter on the other hand, she's got the juice. I'm thinking a little comparative of ballad techniques. Say Kenny Loggins and Mrs. Keys to keep things contemporary. I have banged my head in the studio trying to get the young lady in the booth to block out everything else and "love the song" so many times it's embarrasing. IMHO this is the number reason studio time is wasted. The singer doesn't burn. It's nice to hear a take and know you got every ounce there was to get. She will arrive here on her own, but let's speed it up she has talent!

It's a fantastic song- Kitty has a very pure, lyrical voice that fits the music so well. Glad you guys found your way here... hopefully ya'll will remember us when you're selling out venues across the world.

that voice...
... don't quite know how to describe it. It's got a frailty to it, but also a slight gravelly quality to it that gives it gravity. The voice and melody elevates the okay lyric (i'm not a big fan of this genre of music, so don't take it personal). I'd like to hear this voice singing something a little poppier and bouncier. Also, I'd like to hear a bit more confidence out of your voice. Otherwise, great all over.

the meanings of the words may be a little hidden, but as a Christian, they are obvious. I too like Kitty's voice, it's so mature and mellow. I'd like to download it and add some bass and (maybe) electric (or classical) behind it - if you don't mind...
