Description
This is the first song that my son Dane ever wrote... He is the bass player... in his teens... recently out of hi school... He’s in 2 bands and I’ve been in the studio with both bands for quite awhile now... both bands are recording around 10 songs... and anymore I have to ask them when I can get in there... but I’m not complaining... these guys are reminding me of an earlier time when I was passionate about this stuff... this band (Mythology) is a progressive band while the other is more of a classic rock band with hints of blues/funk... so he’s got his bases covered.... anyway when I found out that Dane wrote this i had to post it...

it would be easy to get the wrong impression listening to this... think “Spinal Tap”... these guys incorporate so much humor in their show, that I always LOL.. while they are kind of lampooning this genre, I can see that they are really enjoying playing it.. it’s fun to watch their fans too... some have no idea that this is sort of tounge in cheek... sort of

about their process... they don’t want to punch anything... if they don’t nail it... they record it again... so I have stuff snaked all over the house... amps in the playroom... drums in the living room... they’re all connected by headphones and they can see each other thru the windows...

they scoff at me because I record my music a track at a time... I’m having a ball with these guys...

Brynen on lead vox & guitar
Dane on bass & back vox
Jason on drums

Lyrics
STARING AT THE SKY ON A MOONLIT NIGHT
SAVORING THIS SWEET LUPINE DELIGHT
HUNDREDS OF PEASANTS NOW MASKED WITH FRIGHT
REFORMING AS WOLVES IN THE PALE MOONLIGHT

WOLVEN FLESH TORN FROM THE BONE
FANGS THAT SEEK TO FIND THE ROYAL THRONE
VIOLENT QUEST FOR THE WARS UNKNOWN
THE HOWLING PACK IS NOW ON IT’S OWN

RIDING TO THE MOON ON DRAGONS WINGS
WARRIORS OF WOLF ARE THE BEASTLIEST OF THINGS
WIELDING THINE SWORDS WHILST THEY SING
THE FIRE’S IN THE EYES OF THE WOLVEN KING

For a "live" recording,
this is quite amazing - very tight guys, and well recorded too.

Really good playing and vocals, with lots of energy (I remember those days too Scott!).

Glad you posted this one.

thanx Neil
I'm sure you could relate... one side note... the vocals were done after the band trax... so it's not completely live... although sometimes they do a sratch vocal during.... but this is really pretty much how they sound if you go see them.. Dane is a real stickler about that

Awesome.
great bass, guitar, and Vocals; That drummer is sick. Sounds like these guys are way ahead of the curve and I would like to follow their progress, Scott. Love the quality of the mix, outstanding. Much to be proud of here, not the least of which is how tight they sound playing together. Makes me want to see a live show.

fast geetar stuff
To be in their teens this band certainly sounds impressive and mature musically. So many details that have to sit just right, and doing this in one take says it all. Jaws on the floor. That vocal stuff was pretty advanced and must be a true challenge to do especially if it's done while playing this fab fast guitar stuff. The energetic bass and drums are putting out some growling grooves that makes it easier for the toppings to have a ball.

One pass
but it wasn't the first... I think we kept the 3rd take.... we also did the final vocal after the band trax... so this isn't totally live... but still!!!!

thanx Thor

I think it's awful...
...how our economy is being wrecked by politicians who say they're for us but secretly represent a cabal of werewolf interests...

Ahem. Nice little nod to Deep Purple in there...

No fat on this power trio. Everyone's pulling their weight and then some... Tight playing all around...

I do have to wonder what sort of bedtime stories you read your son, Scott...

Ed

He was really into the Lord of the rings movies... I'm pretty sure that's where the imagry comes from... cause he wrote this a few years back

REALLY GLAD...
I'M REALLY GLAD THE LYRICS ARE WRITTEN IN ALL-CAPS. IT REALLY MAXIMIZES THEIR IMPACT. IF THEY WERE NOT IN CAPS I MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT THIS WAS A TENDER LOVE BALLAD. SO NOW I KNOW.

And now I will stop yelling! They sound great. I get that the lyrics are kind of a spoof of death metal (at least that's what i'm hoping!) but the rest of it doesn't sound like a spoof at all, just good music, very well played by awesome musicians.

Tourette's
I have TOURETTE"S yes that's it... force of habit... I'm usually writing out lyrics for the worship team, and caps are always a bit eazier to read in a live situation... so when I write out lyrics I it my caps lock first... like I said "sort of"... I can see that they are always serious about the execution... but they still get me to chuckle when I go see them... it's pretty smart stuff

This sounds almost exactly like the school band I was in about a hundred years ago when I was 15! Except we had absolutely no tongues in cheeks! Great Ian Gillan vocal range and some mean axe (I believe that's the word) playing!

Tenacious C!
Definitely the cleanest, most well-defined bass I've heard in a rollicking roll song in a long time. I'm actually digging the progression. As for the humor, I get the feeling it's easier to write those lyrics when it's partly tongue in cheek, stepping out of the genre to us the cliches. So when's the video due?

very good. So many thing to like about this song, firstly it made me laugh. Secondly it is brilliant. Liking those complex patterns and the way you put that together, quite stunning. Driving drumming, polished vox, such a great voice you have mr wolf, such a good tune. Guitar playing is second to none.
