I Made it Through The Fire

Verse 1

My eyes were always open
But I never saw the sun
It lit up all the exits
But I could not breathe to run

And the heat made my blood boil
Those I knew could see
They’d say “her eyes are open
Why won’t she be set free”

My eyes were always open
As my world went up in flames
I tried to call for help
But did not remember names

And the heat made my blood boil
Those I knew could see
I said “my eyes are open
Why can’t I just get free?”

Verse 2
My eyes were always open
I felt my heart’s desire
In order to start living
I’d have to walk through fire

And the heat made my blood boil
Those I knew could see
They said “her eyes are open
This time she will break free”

My eyes were always open
I know the smoke won’t clear
I will have to walk through fire
My chance to live is here

And the heat made my blood boil
Those I knew could see
I screamed with eyes wide open
“I see how to be free”

Verse 3
My eyes are always open
Those who know me see
The heat makes my blood boil
Freedom’s fire burns in me.
