You Got It

Description
During the late 90's and the early 00's I wrote between 200 to 300 songs, just as a hobby after the band days. I just enjoy doing it.

Fortunately, I recorded most of these. Unfortunately, I recorded these on cassettes. I have scores and scores of tapes, even a few reel to reel and 4-tracks, but mostly cassettes.

Anyway, last year my wife needed a car so we bought a 97' Ford. I drive this thing from time to time and it only has a radio and cassette player. I can't stand most top 40 stuff. And here in Germany most of the stations play either top 40 or horrible German Folk Music. I don't have many music tapes, but I have tons of my own.

So, this is a tune that caught my ear and decided to recorded it last month or so and this is what I came up with. It's totally different from the original acoustic version, but the words are pretty much the same.

Good thing I kept these tapes. Besides the songs I have written over past five years, I have another great source. Looks like I'll be around for a long, long time.

Hope you enjoy the tune.

Dave

Lyrics
You Got It

Sometimes you don’t feel that it’s working
Sometimes you feel nothing at all
Sometimes you are hungry and hurting
Sometimes you’re gonna’ seem very small

Well, You Got It

Sometimes you feel nothing at all

Right now you resist a compulsion
Right now you could drown in the rain
Right now you see a cosmic explosion
Right now you feel a little insane

Well, You Got It

Sometimes you feel nothing at all

You know that I know that (Rant)

Glad you will be around a long long time.
The music and vocal's kind of takes me back to some of the British rock from the late sixtys and early seventies. Thanks for shairing from the vault. Nice track.

cool
nice garage-y sound to it.
catchy chorus.
jazzy ending surprising and very cool. could also work as a bridge + return to chorus?
I really enjoyed listening to this one!

One from the vault
I have a similar trove from '80 to '90 ten I went dry on recording for over ten years. Nice job on the revamp - I really like the feel of the instrumental break at the end. Very cool.

nice one
i just love your garage rock sensibilities. when you dump the tapes into your computer do you you re-do anything or just leave it as is. sounds good. i'm really liking that jazzy change that comes in about 3/4 of the way through the song. nice bass playing too.

No no
I just have the demos on tape> I don't dump them on the computer. This was done on GB last month. Nothing analog.

I just used to record on a basic tape recorder- The hiss is unbearable.

Thanks for stopping by M2.

still got it
you don't come across cassette players much anymore. As a matter fact i threw out 10 to 12 cassettes of lo-fi tunes i recorded back in 88-90.
Good thing you had this around to refresh your memory. all your trademarks. and that Steely Dan closing is ....wow, excellent.

never do that
How could you throw gold away? Just because the quality is bad, doesn't mean the idea was. John and Paul lost several songs due to that. I love listening to some of those demo bootlegs too.

Love Steely Dan.

Thanks Vic

Like Eddie, I hear Kinks (I think I've said that before on your songs Dave) but also a touch of Traffic in the ending.

I know what you mean about German radio - no wonder so many young Germans speak such good English - they hear (mainly) US pop music and old hits endlessly on the radio.

There are a few places where the bpm of the drums and the vox seem out of kilter, but overall a terrific song. There was a time when this could have been a big hit ........on German radio :)

Seriously, a cool blast from the past.

I agree...
...with mowguy3. Very mid-sixties Brit garage band rock.

Always enjoy your vocal delivery David. Wish I could get down and Jagger-esque like you do...

Interesting instrumental part after the main section.
