Description:
Here's a trip for you...

This one was pieced together using samples of noise from Hüsker Dü's "Pride", a couple of cut up and distorted drum loops, a solo taken from a Chinese tune called "The New Yellow River" and orchestral background taken from "A New Look Has Come to Our Mountain Village" (both pieces by the Honan Theatrical School).

Stunned again by Stun Nutz. Whew! That's not an easy
listen. Oh well, it certainly sets a mood. Choas on the
mainland. Watch out. I guess this could be a soundtrack
for a high adventure movie set in the Orient. The piece is
loud and distorted, yet cohesive. Good editing.

i was about to note that you are jumping god knows how
many genres.. then i noticed you filed it under 'other'. now
i realize what that category is for ;)

what appeals to me is the contrast of hard banging &
strangled guitar against the almost sickly sweet chinese
rif (what is that, a horn?), finished off by a millisec finale
of rock git goodness. most definitely off-kilter

this is NOT boring. thumbs up

WoW! &mdash 12/02/04 - 10:28:40 AM
This one needs to be on the weekly picks. Very cool
editing. Taking opposite poles and placing them
next to each other creates some wild opposition, yet
it works somehow.

Gonna listen to this one at home where I can turn it
up (at work right now--don't tell the principal!).

All nines.

bouncing by without touching &mdash 12/02/04 - 10:36:41 AM
Like wormholes leading frantically to dimensional riffs in
separate far corners of the world, the listener is bounced
around by the technology of the journey, only tangentially
getting a glimpse at the cultures passing by just beyond
reach. Nice ride.

Wormholes and dimensional riffs...now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

interesting flavor &mdash 12/02/04 - 02:35:08 PM
Imaginative use of clips, chopped up and rearranged,
served over a bed of rice.

I would have liked to hear even more variation in the
soundscape -- what you already have is cool but
somehow, it needs something more. I'll have to listen to
this again.

Thanks for the comment, Cameron.
I considered at one point putting in a section with quiter beats, to give
the ear a bit of a break, but I am always afraid of overworking things and
I just got anxious to get it posted...but if you have any ideas, I am all
ears.

Genre question &mdash 12/03/04 - 05:54:38 PM
Regarding the genre, how about Husker Du-wop?

to thwack or not?! &mdash 12/03/04 - 06:17:30 PM
well, Stun, if the thwacker is you, then definately.

This piece is pretty damned badass- it has an
impromptu virtuosity about it, as if a band were
between songs live, and just jammed out this
perfection of staccato progressiveness.
oddly enough, this piece reminds me a lot of bjork-
while i don't think she has every used sounds like
this, this sort of experimentation is something i
could feel from her.
you've created melody and honesty and flow from
disjointed, atonal sounds that embrace the nearly
unchecked energy behind each note- this work is
horny as hell.
it's auditory art.

This is excellent music. Where else can I hear music like
this, except here.

Far eastern music Rocks! Excellent job of marrying all
these sounds together.

Downloaded and solid 9's for originality in the blended
mix.

Just another relaxing afternoon... &mdash 01/25/05 - 08:18:21 AM
My subway is stuck underneath Chinatown as the parade is clanging by and the nuclear core is melting down and, oh I have to pee... not called Yellow River for the color of the rising sun.

Really like how you assembled and permutated the pieces. A John Zorn
meets John Cage meets William Burroughs. some good mixing of beatss
as well. the interesting thing is how well the piece flows and moves. It
has its own rhythm, but it still manages to function like a song.
