Description
This is a song I wrote in 1982 in honor of one of my favorite musicians. Since he died last year I thought I'd bring it out, dust it off and let the MacJammers have a go with it.

I recorded this song on a four track Fostex cassette recorder (always had problems with it). I used my trusty Gibson SG and Fender Jazz Bass for the guitars. The second part of the lead was done in one take, and that never happens, except for this one time.

I then ran it through a MOTU Ultralight in Garage Band from a Tascam 424mkIII, retiring the aforementioned Fostex. On Garage Band I did a little hocus-pocus to try and remove some tape hiss and I added a second drum track and a little piano.

I know the recording is not the best, but I hope you like it any way.

Lyrics
The Bo Diddley Shakes

Every time I see your face, I get the Bo Diddley Shakes
Palms get sweaty, knees get weak
Can’t seem to find words to speak.

Every time I kiss your face, I get the Bo Diddley Shakes
Temperature rises I go out of control
Can’t seem to find my rock and roll.

Every time I see you I just wanna cry.
Every time I see you I just wanna die, hey, hey

What I feel I can’t equate, to anything else, but the Diddley Shakes
Moon comes up, sun goes down
People get happy make a crazy town.

It only takes the motion of a black man’s hand, to get everybody movin’ cross this land
They remember his color they forget his name
The only time we’re different’s when we feel the same.

Every time I see you I just wanna cry.
Every time I see you I just wanna die, hey, hey

I use his rhythm and I use my speech, to keep my distance and to stay in reach
I haven’t been drinking and I’m not insane
The only time we’re different’s when we feel the same

Every time I see you I just wanna cry.
Every time I see you I just wanna die, hey, hey

Recall Bo Fondly
What a great way to recall Bo. Bo said a lot of mean stuff the last time I was him, Bo was angry because he felt never got his due. He was bitter, the work he did and the compensation he derived from that work in comparison to contemporaries, and nearing the end of his life he felt he should be been more.
A bitter sick old man but once the too strong King of Rock and Roll, well, if ya dismiss Elvis and Chuck B.
Anyway, I try to recall when he was more Kingly....

I Can Understand His Feelings
I don't blame Bo, I blame those who used him. He was always treated as a kind of second tier performer, but he was a good guitarist, songwriter and singer. He also played the blues very well.

Anyway, I liked him.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

you know Bo
cool diddley rhythm and tribute. I think you caught the spirit. Plus you added some nice touches to give it a tough rockin' sound.

Mucho Gracias
I'll take a compliment on vocal anytime. I did like the way the guitars came out on this song, and believe me, with that old Fostex I never knew what I'd get besides indigestion.

Thanks for coming by.

NIce
i'd say the 'analog' sound from the four track tapes stuck with the song to the end. I dig the vibe it gives the song. I also like the affectations you took on this song on all the tracks. It kind of has that 'I care about how I sound enough to not care how I sound' kind of Rock vibe (and i mean that as a compliment). The vocals were good too. I'm usually the one who turns off a song if I feel embarassed for the person singing the vocals and I'm happy to say i didn't feel the need to click away (that's also actually a compliment). I wouldn't change antything about this track. Good stuff.

Thanks Funk!
Well, you mad my day! Believe it or not I tried my best to sound the best I could, but that's what came out.

There are times when I think about re-recording some of my older songs, but don't because I'm not sure I can catch what I liked about the first recording a second time.

Thanks a lot for coming by and commenting.
