Glacial Age (Reprise)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
I better get this post up before the polar ice caps melt! I'd like to share my pocket opus, which clocks-in at 1:50. The noise you hear is all Strat Plus (via Boss GT-6), with help from my Martin D-28 acoustic, a djembe drum and three drum loops.

The "Reprise" means a few things; the threat of climate change; my head in a jar now that I've reached my own ripe-old glacial age; and an improved mix over one I spared you from hearing. Rhythmically, I'm exploring the fluid ambiguity between 3/4 and 4/4 timing.

It won't be an epoch before my next post; An all-guitar sequel based on the themes here is done, but for the mix. Thanks to my studio mentor and Encourager-in-Chief, Captain Ed SloParts. BTW: Genre... Guitronica?!

Praise from on high!
Mark, that's especially high praise considering the source. I have a sequel 99% ready to set sail, too, called "Voyage of the Susan Elizabeth." I've got a much more hyperactive ear-bleeder of a sequel in the can that repeats the themes here with less elegance and/but a more 70's garage-lead mentality. (That also sums-up my "epoch" of axe chopitude.)

My D-28 has been neglected for too long, as has my archtop. This is a sad consequence of having to relegate my studio time to the wee hours when family's asleep.

Ed IS the man. And...
Ed's da man indeed!
Russ, and John & Guy above, thanks. The acoustic is definitely not a support instrument in this one, it wouldn't work without the change-up. IOU and all of MJ some serious catching-up. BTW does anyone hear what I hear, that "chasing" effect between 3/4 and 4/4 time meeting at the 12? I wish a Bill Bruford or Alan White could be my drummer.

You can never have too much Guitar
This is outstanding Bob. Can't wait to see you post the sequel though. I love the dynamics in this as it ebbs and flows during the meltdown. And then finally, after all the churning and violence of the glacier crashing into the sea, when the ice returns to the water, an Iceberg is born.

Very cool track Bro,

Ed

This
is some great writing/playing.I can always count on you to post something really creative.Excellent work.I'm confused though- Rush Limbaugh says there is no such thing as global warming so this must be a song about nothing.

From the Head in a Jar By the Door Dept.
Well, I can always say the song is about the next Ice Age movie. No--it's about my future plans to meet Walt Disney in liquid nitrogen. That's a shot of me in liquid nitrogen from teh future, y'know. Seriously, Thanks, Mark.

If only my wife...
If only my wife agreed. She says everything I do sounds the same. What's a guitar hack to do?! Feter, it's a treat to get back here after too much delay... I will not complain, I'll just try to thank everyone by making some more MJ time.

Hey Dude
Sweet piece of music, reminded me a bit of a dead "space jam", very effective transition from the effected part to the acoustic strumming. Very nice, needs to be longer.

This is
interesting, as I think it has kind of a post apocalyptic band sound, as if they had to re-learn music and re-make instruments and the band was trying to recapture the past. It is hard for me to explain. There is a yearning. Thanks.

"Pocket opus" indeed
This is kind of like a whirlwind trip around Europe (or somewhere else as big and diverse). Some lovely Strat sounds there, and you've done a good job on the production of the Martin also. Of course this could probably be broken down into a number of individual tunes using the different themes you started here, but it stands on its own well too.

Looking forward to hearing the next one.

many faceted
many layers going here and I like it. Kind of has a Grateful Dead feel at the beginning and then goes somewhere else suddenly and keeps turning. Good and balanced sound!

Good One!
Nice going Bob! Good guitars and dynamics. When it started out, at the beginning, it sounded a bit like The Grateful Dead, but rapidly transitioned into that catchy 3/4 melody.

Oh, by the way, besides my Epiphone Casino, I have a GT-3. Your effects sound very good.

This is wonderfully chaotic with a big heart beating at its core. Make it bigger please, this is one of those, this track needs the great outdoors to finish it.
Excellent.

Working on it...
It's definitely all about the great outdoors... the sequel is named after a sailboat! I've all but given up hope on finding a drummer to help bang it out in 6/8 time, so I may post it w/o them as a work in progress.

Thanks, W.W. and all.

It's like... I know!!!
Hey, MW, I know, I know, it's too short! The sequel, clocking in at closer to 4 minutes, is done, I'm just waiting on the collab drums-in-progress. It's a different song than this one, with too many guitars (I can't help it!) and a double-time pace, but it will revisit the same musical themes.

Bear with me! Anyway, considering the source, I'm mighty grateful you liked this ditty; thanks!

skittery electronics
This is very strange, in a beautiful way. Very catchy little riff, played through far too many gadgets, but it all seems to gel into a fanciful scampering wash... what exactly WAS in that drink? Fun stuff, I'll order another, please. :-)

Don't ask me why ..

Enjoyed it.

ABBA!
I just figured-out what the ABBA quotient might be: a major-key melody? Beyond that, I'm stumped, but I'm smiling a lot! Beyond that, I'll say that the Allman Bros., when Duane was still alive, is about the best rock guitar to ever grace the planet.
