Description
Here's a song about us from the point of view of an alien. The picture is of Earth from deep space http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_Blue_Dot
To any Radioheads out there, I'm totally aware that this is a 'Bodysnatchers' ripoff. I've been listening to In Rainbows on repeat for a couple of weeks now and it seems to be influencing a lot of my recent stuff.
This song is meant to come directly before another recent post of mine called 'Downgraded' http://macjams.com/song/51094 - so check them out one after the other if you get a chance.

Lyrics
WHERE I COME FROM
NO ONE'S HEARD OF
IT'S FAR AWAY
WHERE I BELONG

AND I DO NOT
DON'T UNDERSTAND
THE WAY YOU ARE
BECAUSE YOU CAN

WHEN YOU DO YOURSELVES IN
I'LL STILL BE STANDING TALL
AND IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS
YOU MEAN NOTHING AT ALL

DESTROY YOURSELF
AND KILL THEM ALL
JUST CUT THEM DOWN
AND WATCH THEM FALL

THE BLACKENED GOLD
IS IN YOUR VEINS
SO BLEED YOURSELVES OUT
AND YOU'LL GET PAID

I'VE HAD ENOUGH
I'M GOING HOME
IT'S NOT FOR ME YEAH
I'D RATHER BE ALONE

WHEN YOU DO YOURSELVES IN
I'LL STILL BE STANDING TALL
AND IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS
YOU MEAN NOTHING AT ALL

YOU'LL NEVER BE
ALL YOU COULD BE
YOU'LL NEVER SEE
WHAT I CAN SEE

HEY MAN, AMEN!

Dark, interesting choice of structure. Not a Radiohead fan so kind of in the dark there. Like what you have done with this though. Vocals are always great and the lead guitar is you. Like the ending, big change up. I will be looking for Downgraded. Thanks.

Ridd
Love the way the riffs come in at the start - and then drive things throughout. The guitars sound like they're pushing the envelope a bit - maybe that's what you were after, and maybe its just my more "mature" ears responding to something I haven't heard before. Overall there seems to be a very hot mix.

This is a very cool song, and as I've never heard Radiohead, I can't compare it to the reference you gave.

I like it.

creative, surprising chord changes throughout
great harmonies, raw raw raw guitars, and your panning is well thought out so everything is kept clear. the discordant solo is a lovely touch and does remind me of jonny greenwood. picking up the mess at the end with acoustic guitar was a good idea that really matches the lyrics: the cold indifference I imagine the universe holds towards us.
looks like I should check out In Rainbows afterall, if only to see what similarities there are here.

balls out
That riff is killer. We're all lifting, man. Even Radiohead lifts. Anyway, I love the subject matter here. I've always been of the mind that one day we'll find the aliens or they'll find us and everyone will be disappointed because they'll be just as ridiculous as us. "We came here because we've destroyed our planet and need a new place to live. Oh, yours is busted, too? Damnit."

Great job all around. Love the surprise at around 4:34. I'll be passing this one around to my buddies for sure.

grunge
I love the grunge sound on the guitars, very rough. I had the feeling after listening to downgraded there would be more to come directly connected. Another project like your Chronilces maybe? Looking forward to more.
This is the type of sound you do best in my opinion.
Good job.

Love the edge of destruction guitar tone
on the main riff - perfectly modulated and a great bed for the lighter vocals and even the cymbals sit up nice against it. Excellent tune man - Radiohead's got nothing on you - and all the Coldplays out there should serve you dinner. And to top it all off we get a Floyd desert. Yum.

I downloaded this about 20 seconds in. That riff and the f-in' TONE is huge. It just gets better and better. Thankfully, I haven't been listening to Radiohead recently, so you are ALL ORIGINAL in my book and your artistic merit is entirely unscathed. What an awesome song....maybe I'll rip YOU off...;-)....oh and I always knew we were special, just look we're a MUCH brighter pixel than all the other planetary pixels in the universe.

I believe
Better than Radiohead.
Great stuff...as always.
Touch of a melodic NIN to my ears.Great 'wig-out' at the end....ooh, hang on, it hasn't finished yet.
This makes it even more of an epic.
Loved it
Cool track

Captain Crunch
love that crunch dude. also really really like the way the chorus lifts up off of the verse - way cool. Great backup vox as usual - the "ooooo" is especially nice. This is great man and it's much more tuneful than radiohead - an improvement upon RH imo.

yo
i stopped listening to radiohead in the mid nineties, so im not sure what direction they took... But this didnt sound like the radiohead i used to listen to circa fake plastic trees. Im guessing theyre recent stuff is more like this?? this sounded more pop rock then the radiohead i remember.

Cool track, i loved the lyrical content and your voice sounded good 2.. The effect on your guitar worked well with the theme..Sweet listen and well put together.

Oh the
indifference! My Mom would stand at the screen door and Yell: "Kill yourselves!" I think she was more frustrated than maniacal. This is good and I thought the vocals were compelling in their simplicity. Nice statement. Thanks.

Cool stuff
My buddy five_extra_arms would really dig this.

I love it myself. Reminds me of Beck somehow. But then other things as well, such as the Stones..

It was and is a brilliant tune Ridd.

Yeah

It´s dangerously close to Bodysnatchers. But cool nonenthless.
The chorus is stellar.
Speaking about in rainbows, I like that album very much despite the fact that
they screwed up some songs (look for live versions of Videotape and early versions of Arpeggi).Have you ever heard The Bonus disc?"Down is the New Up" and "Last Flowers" should have been in the album

loving the alien
sometimes I feel like I am surrounded by aliens or I am the alien. So, I identify with alien songs very well :-)

the crunch bit crasher tones are great. non of the harsh artifacts that normally come out. Plus, a cool outro!

excellent tune, Ridd

Cool concept Ridd (perhaps even true to life!)...

Love the crunchy guitars. As per usual, you excel on the vocal arrangements.

Good song. Good message.

Not Radiohead...
... no no not Radiohead. Feels and sounds more like Space Needle or early Varnaline. The crunchy guitars totally rock and the overall driving feel of the song is great. Top line vocals just add to the effect, especially as the rise out into the chorus.
Downloaded, ipodded and kept forever. A classic.

Grande grunge! I would love to do some stuff like this someday. It sounds so fun, not fun like the Coasters fun, not dangerous like Nirvanna dangerous fun, not Cold fun like Coldplay, I guess that is what makes this so hard for me to imagine how to do...I'm glad you can do it! Press on.

Awesome
I can just see a flying saucer flying through the different parts of the planet at high velocity. Its like the alien is trying to find a place where he will be accepted and figure out some peace in what would seem to be a chaotic society when viewed from afar.

I was told I should check you out and I must say I am not disappointed! I definitely can sense some radiohead ancestry in here, but it's very well executed and, in my opinion, originilized. This is good stuff here! You're production sounds awesome. Keep it up! I'm glad I found out about your stuff!

Etc.
I might not have compared it to Bodysnatchers had you not mentioned it, but I do hear the similarities. OH Well, it is a good tune regardless. Just read some interviews with Pete Seeger and you will feel a lot better about borrowing melodies, styles, and formats.

The chorus reminds me more of early 90's Alice in Chains sort of music, which I used to have a real affinity for.

this is amazing. such amazing sounds and the drums are killing me (how did you get those drums together?). this is really outstanding. the radiohead influence is for sure there, but you have definitely made it your own. almost sounds more like the Dandy Warhols to me; regardless this is just fabulous.
