Description

This is a re-mix of one of the first songs I posted here. The original www.macjams.com/song/31842 - What If? - This was mixed all wrong and too early.

I heard this today on my itunes and thought I'd take another stab at it.

I tried my best to mix this, but apparently I'm a bit limited in this area.

I think this sounds a bit better turned up.

This is not a re-post, but a re-mix.

	I liked this first time round but there was some bass clipping on it - which isn't a problem this time! Not sure that the balance is quite right though - does seem a bit on the thin side unless it's played quite loud. I don't think ..

there is anything wrong with your mixing abilities. This has a fantastic balance .. everything is just right relative to each other. Fine performances on the vocals (harmonies are excellent)... is reminiscent of Lennon, I hear that too and Oasis.

I really like the jangly guitars - very nicely played and effected and the drum programming and piano too.

Only thing I would suggest is some things sound a little hissy (really noticed this at the start).. perhaps some use of gates of 'high pass filters' might help that on some of the instruments .. add clarity. Then I think it's ripe for some mastering sw .. just to beef it up.

Great tune- excellent chord progression and fine lyrics too.

what if
there's a vulnerability on this one that I havn't heard in your tunes before. it's nice - it invites the listener in, which is good because you've usually got some interesting things going on. in this case i really like the interaction between the guitars and keys. also like the playful phrasing (rain in my brain/tides on the rise).

I don't think I heard the original of this one, so can't compare it, but this mix sounds really nice. I love the drum sound on here. It has a tight warm sound that appeals to the ear. Love the keyboard, and most especially, I like the lyrics. Great vocal performance, too. Words like these need soul, and you provide it in spades, as always. Very cool. Glad you brought this one back. Nicely done, man. Peace.

great song writing, mr lava! i especially dig the maj to maj7 in the verses.

i listened to the old version too just now. i see you are backing off the bass in this new version, but perhaps a little too much? possibly the only instrument that needs less bass is the drums (well, specifically the kick drum) which caused the old version to sounds slightly distorted. other than that, nice song and remix! it would be great to hear it with a sort-of happy medium between the two mixes.
