Unwanted

Description
Short and sweet, a standard rock anthem for the disaffected. A mixture of some (possibly trite) loops and some original content cobbled together and promptly forgotten on the hard drive. Discovered a year later, put through rehab and some counseling, it was nothing a new AD drum track wouldn't fix. As for the lyrics, don't look for deep. Some days in the studio my ankles don't even get wet. Let me know what you think....

Unwanted
© 2007 Racerat

I dedicate this song
To the boys who don’t belong
To the girls who get it wrong
I’m dedicating this
To the ones who don’t exist
Are you hearing this?
Are you hearing this?
Are you hearing this?

Unwanted

Unwanted
Un-needed
You’ve always been mistreated
Hang on
Don’t do what they say
Hang on

I dedicate this song
To the boys who are so strong
They just can’t go along
I dedicate this song
To the girls who don’t fit in
From the orphanage
Are you hearing this?

Are you hearing this?
Are you hearing this?
Are you hearing this?

deep vs shallow
I've always believed shallow can be overcome if you deliver it with conviction....hell, look at our last president, hmmm...ok, but I guess he really didn't over come it, ....mmm and he also should really be convict-ed!--P

.. and what a mix!

.. this hits hard. Awesome. Big sound. Thats quite a reverb you got there Philip .. lol. Love all the little funky bits being panned seductively in the stereo field .. tantalising. Top notch. Downloaded for more scrutiny. :o)

'verb
Yeah, I know. I was seduced by the reverb (and stereo delay!) this time around, but I think it fits the genre. Been studying stereo panning theory lately, tryin' out some new ideas. Thanks for noticing. I like the mix on it, but I'd be happy to hear what you think after your scrutiny!

I wet my pants - but I kept my ankles dry
Is that what you were after?
Great blast of anthemic bravado - I'm pumping my fist and I don't know why. It's such a relief to part of the pack and stop asking questions like - Am I one them? Do they like my haircut? Is this song about me? Am I missing the point entirely? Do they realize I can't keep a beat? It's really great to hear you putting yourself out there like this. I think we're all getting to the point where we realize we have nothing to lose - that hasn't already been taken.

that everyone should write a song like this at some point. not because it takes brains, or moves people in a special way, but just because theyre so much damn fun to play!

"special"
Ano,
I always succumb to the fun. That's why I'm in the game folks. When I was younger I always made the analogy of playing electric guitar to driving a race car. Speed, fury and adrenaline. Affordable to a kid and dangerous for Mom and Dad.

Fantastic song Phil
Wasn't too sure about it at the open, but then it really got to cooking on all burner, and this is one hot song my friend.

Love the theme and the music, and you vocal sit right there in the mix perfectly. Hell of a mixing job Phil, Kudos on that and the entire song. Really good stuff.

The girls! The boys!
This is a fine wash of soundscape stuff (that stereo placement rocks the beginning and the end); and I'm particularly sympathetic to the bigger art-rock sound you've got going here. I hear a lot of Ego's fist pumping, but also some eyeliner.

SJ,
You know me, always going big. What can I say, too many Don Kirshners late nights at a very impressionable age. The makeup box is gathering dust from the college days, but you should seen me then, baby. I was a sight.

huge song
I love the vocal effects - they make the song sound just huge. Very anthem like chorus too. It kinda has a 70's funk vibe to it - could almost go on The Warriors soundtrack. I'm the type to listen to the music and structure more than the lyrics so we're cool. If my lyrics end up meaning anything I was lucky.
Nice resurrection of a found track.

Warriors, come out and plaaaayeeyaa!
I loved that movie. What a classic. Yeah, you're right it does have a bit of a funk vibe to it. Kind of a James Brown vamp stomp, or a P-Funk intro. Not much of a structure, no real changes per se, just a simple thump, thump...BTW, Your lyrics on your last one are nothin' to sneeze at, that's a really nice cut. Thx for the listen Nick.

The pay-off...
...is in the "unwanted" refrain - a bit a like a Chili Peppers anthem where the shift from agro to melody makes the spine tingle. Very pumped up throughout. Really making my speakers kick out some air! Short 'n' sweet is good! I like it! Agree with APB re: the stereo field - it *is* very seductive -

Great stuff -

Conviction
Yes, this is it : not a question of being shallow or trite, the main thing is about conviction. I love the way you deliver, no mentionning the top notch production and slick guitars. The new rock anthem of the site, definitively ! _loaded, faved, noted… what more ?
Keep on rockin', Phil !

Love the intro. The echo in the vocals threw me off a little, but after listening for a second time they fit nicely with the song. Great rhythm section. Grooved up at just the right pace. Nice tune.

echo
Yeah, I was thinking of cutting the echo in and out more, especially on the main verses rather than having it go all the way through. But, you know how it is, you can tweak a mix until you turn 92 and there is always more to do...gotta post it sometime. Oh, P.S. dug your post on guitar riffs in the forum, (Boys are Back in Town) ya got that right....-P

Kids
Can't imagine what kids like these days music-wise. It's the wild west out there these days stylistically. Man in my day it was FM radio and what ever the pay-for-play guys had cued for the night. Thanks for the headphone comment. I think it sounds best on them, due to not wanting to drive my wife crazy, I tend to all my work in the cans until I have to do the final mixing chores. Such is life. Thanks for the comment!
